First thing’s first:
Happy New Moon!
As many of you already know, I am very sensitive with matters concerning animals. Be it killing them for fashion, animal testing, poaching, or endless [as it seems] acts of cruelty towards innocent beings …including eating them [a rather late revelation for me].
For a long long time I’ve wanted to do something creative [other than signing petitions – sharing or donating] to help raise awareness for those issues. None of the things I did pleased me though so I let the thought linger until last week. Pen and paper and it was all there.
So, without further ado, here’s the first of my series titled “Really People?“. This one is about Animal Testing.
This day and age, with technology booming, we still test on animals, use in laboratories or for ‘educational purposes’ when there are so many alternatives to this exceptionally inhumane way.
I will not post any videos or gruesome pictures as I realize not everyone has the stomach for it. I didn’t either. All it took was a couple of seconds for me to burst into tears and say ‘no more’. However, I found out that by turning my back, the issue became a distant remembrance of a pain I once felt, forgotten. Needless to say, I force my self to watch now. Not out of masochism obviously but because it makes me want to do something about it. So, if anyone wishes to learn more about animal abuse, please visit the Humane Society here: http://hsi.org/campaigns/end_animal_testing/ or Peta here: http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-experimentation/
For the good news, there are many companies out there which have chosen not to test their products on animals. You can check Peta’s Cruelty Free Companies list or the ‘Animal Ingredients List‘.
Here it is:
[Animal Testing] – Really People?
As with most of my work, this too is available at my art shop here
…and on various items like phone and laptop cases & skins, t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, shower curtains, rugs, pillows, v-neck tees, onesies, wall clocks, cards etc

Art is a wonderful form for expressing one’s empathy and convey a strong message to the society…great one!!!
Thank you very much, Nihar. I am very happy you think so. 🙂
The most fascinating thing for me is, you’ve created a very powerful image on a distasteful subject, and yet it seems to have a certain lightness and joy that’s true of all your work. It manages to combine artistry, activism, a joyful spirit, and a hopeful heart. Of course, when you’re Marina Kanavaki, it’s all in a day’s work… : )
Ah, my friend… it was the subject which actually directed me to this and I can’t tell you how happy your words make me. In the back of my mind there was always a concern of how this would turn out. You have just described all my hopes for the outcome. THANK YOU!!!! 🙂
I hear that they are in need of a new god round here and I have nominated you, so be on the look out for messages from Mt Olympus!
Wonderful concept Marina, as noted by the many comments you’ve received. Incredibly moving post and first artwork toward bringing awareness to the cruelty of animals. If anyone can move society to paying attention it will be you ~
Oh…. what a generous compliment, Mary! I wish it could, my kind friend – I wish it really could!
Thank you for such a lovely comment! 🙂 xx
This is a beautiful initiative Marina… I am not going to comment on animal testing, human kind is unbelievably cruel.
Ah, yes, not as humane as the word implies! Thank you, my dear Ioanna!! 🙂 [happy to see you again!]
You have great heart, Marina! Humans are the most inhumane species on the planet when compared to other species. It is very sad…
It really is very sad… Thank you, my dear Nawfal.
I hope you are feeling much better! 🙂
Thank you Marina!
I hesitated to click the ‘Like’ button as the subject is very unlikeable.
Thank you for bringing attention to these matters.
It’s a sad, sad issue.
~~~ : – (
Unlikeable indeed… May it cease to exist one day. I hope that what I do may help towards that. 🙂
I hope that beseeching look pierces the hardest of hearts. Great job Marina.
Oh, Madhu, if only!!! Thank you very much, my dear friend! 🙂
Excellent! People don’t know…or would prefer not to. Great designs . Worthy quest
I believe they don’t know – at least many don’t. I didn’t either, a few years back, until I read and -unfortunately- saw. Thank you so much for your support! 🙂
Animal testing is wrong.
Case closed!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are very beautiful, Marina!
I don’t know where you are taking this sentiment/reality, but I am following and support your endeavour.
I do help, in a small way.
Indeed, my dear Resa, very wrong!
I don’t know either, but somehow I’ve always felt the need to respect every being and it’s space. What’s happening is simply perverse and cruel.
Any help, is good, be it small or big! Small maybe very big to someone anyway! Thank you so much for supporting this. It means so much to me!
[a late response as I was away for a couple of days…]
Happy June 1st, my dear Resa!! 🙂
You really are one of my heroes, Marina.
Keep fighting the good fight.
Oh, Robert, you are making me blush – big time!
Animal cruelty makes me really really mad / sad… still what I do is very little, but thank you.
Have a beautiful June, my friend! 🙂
Wonderful! It’s great message my dear Marina! ❤️
Happy new moon to you too❤️❤️❤️
xxxx
Thank you so much, my dear Violet.
Happy June to you and Malus! 🙂 xx
Thank you for your courage, determination and compassion. Brilliant!!!
“We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.” Albert Schweitzer
Ah, my dear Rebecca, thank you so much. I think it’s mainly a feeling of helplessness… or as A. Schweitzer says, can’t find peace.
WELL….NOW THEY TEST ON PEOPLE…WITH A MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE!!!
You go girl! 🙂
😉 Happy you’re with me, Russ! 🙂
Excellent! Well said. Happy New Moon to you too, Marina!
Thanks, Richard! I’m glad you agree! 🙂
A brilliant and inspirational idea Marina
Ah, so glad you like it, Jim!! 🙂
I so share your disgust to these practices and I am too saddened to look at those videos. I love your strong and moving graphic. Peta should buy the rights to it. I was a supporter of both organizations, but the Human Society locally got in a lot trouble for how they “euthanized” animals here. Not the right way either. I stopped sending money. Peta causes a lot of property destruction and I don’t condone a lot of their extreme practices anymore either. Sad how both organizations had to resort to damaging or hurtful actions.
I agree with you on everything. I didn’t know about the HS and truly they both shouldn’t have to resort to damaging actions. However they do so much good work for animal rights… There are so many issues I might have never known if it weren’t for them. I’m very happy you like my work on this! 🙂
Love it!
Thank you, Reena! 🙂
Love it! And animals!
Thank you, dear Pink!! 🙂
Marina it is a great message and very powerful in the doing list. Good on you and I hope we can support your views as it is not a one person war but ours all. It is a huge subject and there should not be cruelty to animals what so ever, Good luck!
Yes, my dear friend, I agree. That was my aim too. The more people are aware of this, less chances for this cruelty to continue. [that would be the natural way of things anyway!] 🙂 Thank you, my dear Doron! Have a great evening and even better new day dawning! 🙂
🙂
Great poster, Marina. Well done! 🙂
Thank you very much, Sylvia! 🙂 xx
Marina, as you know I agree entirely with your sentiments and have google + it… A great poster to bring attention to the horrors we inflict upon our animal kingdom for the sake of fashion..
Love and Hugs my dear friend. Sue xox
I know we share these sentiments about this matter, my dear Sue and I’m so happy that you like my way of bringing attention to it. Thank you, my friend.
Hugs and many xxxx !!!!!
Really cool Marina!
Thank you, my dear Gilly!!!! 🙂
Oh, Marina, this is your gift to the animals! ~xoxo
Oh, Patricia, I really hope it is! Thank you, my kind friend! 🙂 xxxxxx
Terrific Marina! I could not agree more with your sentiments. AND, this is an inspired contribution.Thank you!
I’m very glad you think so, Elena!!! Thank you so much!!! 🙂
this is another FB where a lot of petitions are published…
Is going to be a great “love-war” (great that you too aretrying to become vegan, vegetarian was not enough for me anymore) Love :-)c
I don’t know about where you live but over here being vegan is very near to being an ‘extra terrestrial’! Not easy! 😉 Thank you for the link!
In Switzerland there are several of us “extra terrestrial” 🙂 as I told you, I’m not a fully vegan (it’s hard when you love cheeses) but I’m trying hard. What we buy is basically from local bio farmer, but not very strict, since we buy feta cheese from your country too (bio, of course). Kisses :-)c
I hope more companies avoid this extreme cruelty to animals. In our MBA class we discuss The Body Shop ethics and values as an example of a company who is passionate about no animal testing.
Thank you dear Marina for the reminder.
They truly were a great example and for so many years now… It is very encouraging that many companies now follow their example. But we have to help too as consumers. Thank YOU, my dear Dilip! 🙂
Oh dear! You know how I feel upon this matter, about all what regards animals and the way to protect them… I do love this idea!!! Art & deep awarness… the same I use when I write my novels! I will send you all the details about our trip to Pylos in the next days, dear Marina… have a lovely day :-)claudine
I know how much you care, my dear Claudine and how involved you are with those issues. Thank you so much for your kind words! [waiting for the details!] You too have a lovely Thursday! 🙂 xx
Great idea. I don’t have the stomach for violence on inhumane acts
Thank you!! Absolutely understandable!!! [and human!] I hope that there will be none of those one day! 🙂
Way to combine two passions with a burst of creative expression. After all, you creative types probably get the urge to do something different, and in this case, I can say well done!
Thank you, Frank. It means a lot. It’s actually quite hard expressing something when you’re involved emotionally, so your words make me very happy! 🙂
🙂
WELL DONE, MARINA.
Thank you, dear Jo! 🙂
A great idea.
Thank you, my dear Cynthia! 🙂
Not gonna look at the vids… cause then I want to kill someone… lovely share..
Yes, Rob, I know. My feelings too…
Thank you!
thoughtful post and sensitive one to share the pain and cruelty that the animals go through.
Thank you very much, my dear Soumya. I hope that through this we may see a little bit differently. If everyone knew, I’m sure they’d be more cautious of what they’d buy.
Sad, sad, sad 😦
Yes, yes and yes!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bravo Marina !!! Ton art au service de la défense des animaux… j’aime ça !!!
J’aime que tu aime ça, Arielle!!!! Merci beaucoup, chérie! 🙂 xx
