Storm Coming

Yes, you read that right!

After summer’s first warm days, a thunderstorm with high winds darkened our city sky!

Not complaining of course as I am very fond of rain [especially in summer!] – very spectacular from our top floor apartment!

So I grabbed the opportunity and here it is.

  1. MMMRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrKKKKSSSSsskkkktttTTTmmm… Is that thunder and lightning I hear?? How it crashes upon my poor addled senses!! Nothing new, of course… I always have this experience whenever I gaze upon the work of the tempestuous and enchanting Marina Kanavaki… : )

I’m a big fan of rain myself, and there’s something particularly enjoyable about summer rain. No wonder your stormy painting has left me, er, soaked with pleasure, my dear Marina!! : )

  2. The texture, choice of colours, and movement gives the effect that the material is about to explode right off the canvas ,in each of the tableau’s you have presented. Extraordinary creations as usual. Love your work! JJ

    • I’m glad you like it, Frizz. Poor garden house – I hope it can be fixed!
Yes, I do remember and I am very grateful for that! That would be fun doing! 🙂
You know I always have my ears open to your guitar playing!!! 🙂

  3. Beautiful loose design and gives us the strength of an oncoming storm with the soft blur of rain – great concept and execution! Happy Wednesday!

  4. one word…..wow! this is so very expressive, marina! just a few colors and water! but im astounded at how you manage to create such spectacular results so simply! i recall an artist i read about many yrs ago..Ron Ranson i think his name was…he showed how to create very simple but very expressive pieces like yours, with just 1 color…and a very wide brush he called a hake? thank you for this astounding work, marina….youre an oak!

    • Ashamed to admit I didn’t know him so I looked him up. Such beautiful watercolors!!!!! Very expressive indeed! …”like mine”? not even close!!! He’s got an impeccable technique! Who’s a flatterer now?!!!! I totally agree with him about one color and a wide brush. I usually use a very thick brush throughout the whole painting. It’s fun trying to do fine lines with a very wide or thick brush!
ps omg I’m starting to grow branches! 😉

  5. Marina, I love your storm! Those purply-blues and greys are stormy – yes – but very soothing to me! ~xoxo

    • Ah, Patricia, I just remembered your amazing watercolor ‘stormy weathers’ and ‘whirlpools’… so beautiful.
So happy you enjoyed my storm in a soothing way! 🙂 xxxxxx

    • We didn’t either. It’s only the past couple of years that they started making their presence! So happy you liked my version of it. Thank you, Debra!! 🙂

  6. I just love the way the colours run into each creating so many hues.
Summer storms are so refreshing ❤

  7. Of gray clouds suddenly the sky was
and the thunder rumbled with the voice of the ogre.
He thrust forward, along the main road
paper leaves and birds the fuss.
    They heard the desperate calls
thuds of taxes and slamming of doors.

They saw women fighting in a meadow
with the angels afraid of laundry.
Then sowed the rain with both hands
    roofs and streets dancing tulips
    cut the landscape, everything illividì
in a cloud of dust of bright water.

When he was dazed and fixed
as a brink of the fiery abyss
where the world seemed to go underwater
the sky was already clear on things
and fogged windows in the dining room
    risorrise the country watercolor
    the countryside sweetly kinky
    hums golden church as wasp.

There was nothing left of the horrendous crash
    the musical trickle of tears
    the eaves, already quiet good already;
picked it up dying the brown cricket.
    With drummers frail skin,
frogs take him to the stars.

    When the storm is coming
    the heart, beyond the clouds
    speaks in the sky.
    “As a framework,
    as a drawing,
with a thought or a desire.
    Or a watercolor,
    or its colors,
    or with his life,
    or her death,
    or with a sigh,
    or the moon”.

It rains on our hearts and our sorrows.

    A ray of light is:
    the latest work of Marina.
    A world of beauty found.
    Sweetness of a lost desire.
Charm of a dream within a storm.

The hand of Marina, even today, gave us a smile in a storm.
    Thanks Marina
    A kiss my sweet friend.

    • Ah, yes, my dear Ninni, “it rains on our hearts and our sorrows” …and washes out the pain.
Hence, the smile and the dream in that storm!
Your poem speaks to the heart and your words caress the soul. It is you who are a ray of light full of kindness and talent.
Thank you so much for this heartfelt contribution to a humble painting.
A smile for you, with my gratitude,
      my friend, Ninni.
      Be well – always.

    • Thank you, my dear Frank! 🙂 True, I enjoyed watching this ‘performance’ – fierce, determined and awesome! 🙂
Happy Sunday and new week ahead! […with a more obedient eye!] 🙂

  8. Now are you sure Marina you didn’t send your storm over to the UK? yesterday?? we had a mighty down pour in the morning… Thunder and lightning flashing… But it cleared late afternoon…. The horizon looked very similar to your painting.. 😉
Lovely.. and May the rest of your week Dear Marina.. be cloud free blue skies.. :-D.. Enjoy my sweet friend… Love Sue xox

    • 😆 Maybe I have!!!! But it seems that his storm has been around lately – even across the ocean! I’m beginning to think it’s the same one in an attempt to bring us all together!! 😉
      Thank you, my dear Sue!
We were told we would have another one today but it seems it got delayed! It will be welcome when it arrives.
Happy new week, my dear friend! 🙂 xxxxx

  9. I’ve never seen stormy skies look so beautiful, Marina…gorgeous colors and combinations. Have a wonderful weekend with the raindrops, my friend…hugs!

    • Ah, what a lovely thing to say, my dear Lauren!!! Indeed it seems that after a short break we will be having a Sunday with raindrops! Hugs back and a wonderful weekend to you too! 🙂 xxxx

  10. In my opinion, there’s no such thing as bad weather. There’s just many different types of exhilarating weather.

  11. Just like a summer storm, these are transfixing and absolutely beautiful. You’ve captured the atmosphere perfectly.

I’m very fond of them too. There are few sweeter sounds than that of thunder rain… when you’re indoors, of course! 🙂

    • Yes, when you’re indoors!!!!
if you add to this the scent of the freshly wet soil, you get the perfect experience!
We’re about to relive this tomorrow [if the weather forecast is correct!]
I’m so happy you enjoyed this, Steven.
      Have a great weekend! 🙂

  12. Marina dear wonder wonder if you can wish your beautiful colours of the storm to wing their way towards India 🙂 We await impatiently for our skies to break-in the the monsoon rains!

    • Full heartily! I am sending it straight over to you!!! We’re having another one tomorrow so I’ll be able to ask the storm -in person- to visit you!!! 🙂
Thank you, my dear friend! 🙂

    • Thank you, Richard! It seems that storms are very ‘active’ in many parts of this planet lately!!! We’re expecting another one tomorrow after a few days of warm weather. Wishing you a sunny Sunday!!! 🙂

  13. A good representation of delightful stormy weather, my dear Marina! Have a nice weekend. xxx

  14. Lovely interpretation, Marina – all those wonderful plums, blues, and silver-greys.

Just as I type, we are awaiting a storm here The skies have just darkened and there is that quietness which comes just before it arrives.

    • What is it with the storms?! Is the whole earth under attack by storms?!! We’re also expecting another one tomorrow!
I love that eery quietness before storms btw…
Thank you so much, my dear! 🙂

  15. Bold, dramatic and intens – not the Marina I know, but truly beautiful … I think a stormy sky is beautiful in real too. Have a lovely weekend, Marina.

  16. A stormy sky represented beautifully Marina. What’s this about summer? we’ve had grey sky followed by more grey sky, cool days and then thunder and lightening woke me in the night!

    • I know, it’s been quite weird here too! We’re expecting another one tomorrow! Oh, well, for us in the city it’s better. Hot summers are not my favorite while in town!
Thank you, my dear Gilly. Happy weekend! 🙂

    • I could see it coming down the mountains, covering the city sky fast. It was very spectacular and I wanted to capture that movement. I’m so happy you like it! A great weekend to you too, my dear Sylvia! 🙂

    • Ah, Donna, thank you! Indeed gentle rains are a blessing in a warm summer! This one was quite fierce, but watching it from the safety of my home, it looked beautiful! 🙂 A very happy weekend to you too! 🙂

  17. Spectacular…! They so well express the anger and vengeful mood the storm imposes. The colours remind me of the very first painting of the sea after a storm in Capri by the Italiano grand master of seascapes, Cavaliere Michele Federico, to which I treated myself as a young man visiting Capri, which I have treasured ever since. Your artistic talent fails you not. JJ

    • Amazing seascapes!!!! How fortunate to have one of his works, JJ! I’m so flattered that this reminded you of that painting. Thank you, my dear friend. 🙂

  18. You’ve captured idea of a summer storm! I love the rain too in the summer. We should get plenty this coming week.
    Beautiful work, Marina!
Have a great weekend…and stay dry! xoxo
