“An independent campaign working to highlight the importance of the lion globally and to raise lion conservation awareness worldwide. “Saving the King of Beasts to Save Ourselves”

…The lion is an enduring symbol across the nations and has fascinated man throughout the millennia. To lose such a species would be to lose a significant part of our global heritage.”

as stated at the official ‘World Lion Day‘ campaign page.

“The one excellent thing that can be learned from a lion is that whatever a man intends doing should be done by him with a whole-hearted and strenuous effort.”

  2. Liebe Marina mußte mir die so schöne Löwenfamilie noch mal ansehen einfach fantastisch einen schönen glücklichen Dienstag wünsche ich dir Klaus ganz liebe Grüße

  3. In a way it is sad that we have a day dedicated to lions in order to raise awreness. It should be lion day every day.

Lovely pics ~ thanks for sharing ❤

  4. Amazing pictures for a fitting tribute! In India, the concern for tigers (only about 1700 left in the country now) overrides that for the lion, so we don’t hear much about efforts to save lions. But wow, what magnificent creatures they are!

  5. Yes! To the king and queen of the jungle! As much as I know that captivity is a necessity for some of these grand felines, the wild is where they belong. My wish for Lions Day is to respect them unmolested, in the wild. Thank you Marina!

  6. I love Lions and love drawing these magnificent beings.. Thank you for highlighting World Lion day..to be quite honest this is the first I heard of there being a Lion Day.. Many thanks for sharing…
    Love and Blessings

    • Thank you, Sue! They have a quote in the campaign page for the lion which I really like: “The lion is beyond dispute, allow’d the most majestic brute; his valor and his generous mind, prove him superior of his kind” by John Gay [poet], isn’t it beautiful?!
      love and hugs xxxxxx 🙂

  7. A big plushy pussycat! I do well remember Alex the lion (disney movie Madagascar)…
The lion deserve our respect, not only during his special day, but always…
    Kisses 🙂 claudine

  8. A beautiful post to bring awareness to these gorgeous cats, Marina. I love lions, too, and hearing of their extinction and others is so heartbreaking…thanks for sharing, my friend, and have a peaceful Sunday. ♥

    • It is truly heartbreaking that their numbers are decreasing rapidly. Hopefully our awareness might help alter this. A peaceful Full Moon Sunday to you too and a beautiful week ahead! 🙂

  9. There is nothing as majestic as a Lion. No wonder he is acclaimed as the King of the jungle. I am with you Marina in honoring the World Lion Day.

  10. Those lions are regal and definitely need to be protected – but I’m glad they don’t live where I live. They might take over my house and I already have enough trouble with the two little cats.
