Absence and hope © 2014 Marina Kanavaki
Digital Painting
“It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.”
John Steinbeck ‘The Winter of Our Discontent’
Alas, after a long absence, my radio silence is over.
As I mentioned in my previous post, sometimes things happen that throw us off course.
A belated mention of events which took place during my absence.
[in date order]
• Early October was my 3rd blogging anniversary
• My work: ‘In Limbo – Sepia I’ was selected to be included in the Society6 Shop
• DST is gone and we have gotten our precious hour back!
[you can visit my homage to the lost hour back in March here ]
• My good friend Wendell, inspired by my full moon painting,
wrote this BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL poem:
Thank you, Wendell
…and
THANK YOU, from my heart, to all my friends who sent their compassionate thoughts and love throughout this difficult time in my life.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and new month dawning.

This post is an older one but it’s still full of lovely art from… YOU! ❤
Sorry I’ve been away from your pages too long Marina! Back for a while now I hope 🙂
This is a fascinating painting and one that moves me deeply as I am somewhere between these two at the moment 🙂 x
Seems that this has been [and still is] a trying time for many of us, Ken. I wish you start leaning more towards hope, my friend. Sending you a big smile. 🙂
[no need to apologize!]
Gorgeous artwork. 🙂
Thank you, Ben! 🙂
Marina, I adore how art inspires art. Connections made through our creative hearts reaching out and touching each others lives. You bless me today with this post. Thank you.

Welcome back, Marina, you have been missed. Thinking of you. Babsje
Good to see you, Babje! Glad to be back. 🙂
I love the contrast and the oppositeness (is that a word?) of this. Very nicely balanced.
It is, my dear Bongo and a nice word it is too! Thank you so much, my clever sweet doggy! 🙂
Be well always dear Marina. Many good wishes coming your way. 🙌

Thank you! 🙂
What?? I hurried right over here, but I see I’m the 135th person to push the Like button!! I can’t believe 134 people were rude enough to push ahead of me– don’t they know I’m your #1 fan?? : )
Beautiful image, my dear Marina. A light goes out on earth, its mirror image blossoms in the heavens. I just attended the Catholic All Souls Day mass this past Sunday, and your lovely creation fits the theme perfectly. I also heard a beautiful hymn with the lyric, “There is room for all in my Father’s house.” Absence is keenly felt, but Hope sustains us.
Dear me! I’m waxing quite philosophical today! I must pull myself together and resume my usual shiftless existence. But not before I gaze wistfully up at Mt. Olympus and heave a sigh… : )
“Absence is keenly felt, but Hope sustains us.” Overwhelmed, bewildered, amazed,, flabbergasted, dumbfound, astounded – plainly said: rendered speechless as is expected whenever I read your comments! 🙂
A full moon tonite and you at full power as well. Those spirals are wonderful. How on earth you re-constructed them is part of your art of course. Recently I blogged a photo of a spiral galaxy recently, and was looking at various galaxy photos. Yours are equally beautiful.
Ah, thank you so much, Stephen… I remember that photo. I’ve always loved seeing spiral galaxies. Mesmerizing. Happy Full Moon! 🙂

🙂 …you mean this? http://www.spacetelescope.org/videos/heic1305a/ !!!!!!!!!!!!
full of mysteries!!!
Not in a good way, I’m afraid… Thank you for visiting!
Dear Marina… I send you my thoughts and Hope this passage you are going through will soon be at an end as you see your Light at the end of your tunnel.. Sending special thoughts and Much Love your way my friend.. ❤ ❤ ❤ xxx Sue
Ah, my dear Sue, your thoughts and love were received and so much appreciated. I am gradually readjusting but it seems it is taking me much longer than I expected. Please be patient with my …latency! 🙂 hugs and xxxx
Marina, take all the time you need…. You are the important one.. x ❤
Love your art work! Great job!!!!
Ah, thank you, my dear Melody. 🙂
My dearest Marina, I am leaving my thoughts here after a very long time. To see your art is always a deep pleasure mingled with even deeper reflection(s). The composition has its’ striking emotion in all elements – where absence and hope become interdependent duo – as two dancers in a waltz, or, merangue – rising the pulse to a cathartic explosion. ‘Tis very beautiful – just as my dear friend and artist that you are. Lots of hugs & love to you.
My sweet friend, thank you from my heart for your kind words, support and friendship. Sending you hugs, love and xxxxxx
A strikingly beautiful and poignant work! Delighted to have you – and your art -back Marina. Take care dear friend.
Thank you, my dear Madhu. It’s good to see you too! In the blogging world 2 months seem like eternity!
This is beautiful Marina…in B & W ..!..my favorite..:-)
…and you are a master in B/W! Thank you, my dear Sriram. 🙂
So happy to see you my dear friend!
If darkness doesn’t exist we couldn’t enjoy or be thanksfull for light! Been after long dark tunnels a light will be apear.
Positive thoughts and all the best to you! My thoughts are with you and looking forward to see your dancing flowers or beautiful colors world again😘
Love and hugs
xxx
Awww, thank you so much, my dear Violet for your sweet words. I don’t know if it’s going to be dancing flowers, but there will be …something – which I hope you’ll enjoy! Hugs – love and xxxxx
There is always a light at the end of every tunnel – you just need to look for it.
David.
Yes, David… I know. As it happens, it’s a full moon tonight! 😉 All the best.
Darkness would be unbearable without knowing the light is going to break through. It’s great you’re having hope. All the best to you!
It’s so true, isn’t it? Thank you, my dear Inese.
Just being able to pop over here and see something you’ve created has been wonderful. I’m sad for your silence. You are a ray of sunshine each time you visit my blog and leave your very sweet comments. The paintings showcasing the dark and the light express the truism of life. For in order for there to be light at times there must be dark. My wish for you is one of rising above all and coming back to us in light and love. ❤ hugs ❤
My dear Isadora, that is a beautiful wish! My silence is over and I am gradually readjusting, but it may take a little longer than I anticipated to catch up with everything [including work]. Thank you so much for your warm words! 🙂 hugs to you too!
Very cool… 🙂
Thank you, Laz! 🙂

Welcome back, Marina! Have a great weekend!
Hi, Richard! A great week to you! 🙂
sometimes we need those periods of incubation and introspection; sometimes we feel overwhelmed or that we fell short. sometimes our bodies let us down – or remind us that we’re not machines… you will look back and see where this was a growing period for you and necessary to evolve into an even-more stronger person… hang in there beautiful one… z
Ah, my dear Z… I agree with you about becoming a stronger person. A loss can surely do that. For the time, I am readjusting. Thank you so much for your beautiful thoughts and support. xx
Welcome back, Marina! I truly hope your difficult time is over. I think this new piece of yours speaks volumes. _Resa xoxo
Hi, my dear Resa. It will probably take some time for it to be over. I don’t think we actually get over a loss but probably readjust… Good to see you! xxxx
I understand! I lost my mother 2 years ago, and now, soon, a sister! xoxoxo
Oh, no, Resa! I am so sad to hear this… I am sending you all my thoughts, prayers and a big big hug. xxxxx
Hug for you, too! xoxoxo ❤
Very comforting and so happy to see you again Marina. Your art and writing tells me much, the road is long – it’s good to have you back ~
Ah, my dear Mary, yes, the road is long. I’m also very happy to see you and your beautiful art after so long! 🙂
Another piece I love immensely.

Hi, Sue. Good to see you too! Readjusting, but ok, thank you!

Missed you too, Colleen! Thank you so much for your thoughts. I am gradually readjusting.
Dear Marina it’s so good to see you back again and I hope you’re doing okay, big hugs.
Oh, it’s so good to see you too, Gilly. Gradually readjusting to our losses. warm hugs back and xx
More than a nice way to bring these two words to surface. Absence & Hope seem interwoven in the images of the two separate, and yet one and the same forms, expressing the exact state of life on this planet earth in form and description. That artistically creative mind of yours just keep reaching out ever further to make us think beyond the beauty and pleasure of your paintings. Reminders the like are in short supply. Thank you for this! JJ
No, thank YOU, my dear JJ! It was hard to realize yet there can be hope from loss. As soon as I finished one, it’s negative brought it up. Sometimes our creations are wiser than us. Again, thank you, my friend. 🙂
I’ve missed you, Marina. Good to see you here again. I popped over to read Wendell’s poem. It’s beautiful, and goes so well with your lovely painting. *hugs*
Likewise, my dear Sue! I am gradually returning to my normal activities. I’m so glad you visited Wendell’s page. You’ll discover a treasure in there! 🙂
Marina, I’m so glad to see you, my dear friend! xoxo
So am I, my dear Patricia!!! 🙂 xxxxxx
I was thinking about an email … and then you post. 🙂 ,,, so now I’m happier. 😀
🙂 …so am I, to see you! 🙂
Very clever Marina! 🙂
Bon week-end!
Brian
Thank you, Brian. Have a great week. 🙂
