Nine – a very significant number to me, in many ways.
Steve (A.K.A. Bumba), a very talented writer & musician and friend here at the blogosphere, has been doing a series of posts on numbers: “The Numbers Game Is Here: Mathematics for Dummies” with this subtitle: “The beauty of math, of numbers and other beautiful patterns. Of Geometry and Science. Watch out it’s heavy.”
He invited me to work with him on nine.
I really don’t think I meant to approach it in the way I did. In fact I have to admit that life almost made me forget about it, till now. [either this or he would have twisted my arm! 😉 ]
Thank you, Steve!
So here it is and how appropriately, during the ninth of the ninth month:
The Whole Nine Yards*
Do check Steve’s blog where he gracefully shares his stories and songs.
That’s it – nine images for nine on the ninth! 😉

Interesting. The numbers in the product of nine and any number will add up to nine; 18,27,36. Except for 11!
Of course they do!!!! 😉👍
And of course I’m still stumped and stupefied by all these numerical oddities. Here’s to being stupified!
Cheers to that!!!!!
Thank you for directing me from your September 2020 post! Guess what? 9 is MY favourite number. And I’m a dragon… fitting, I say.
What a fascinating post.
Wonderful, so we got same favorite number!!!! Shame we don’t share the dragon… I wish I was one. Instead I’m a rooster… of all creatures! 🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣
Indeed! 😉
Ah well… we can’t be the same in everything 😉 But no worries, this dragon will make sure no one attacks the rooster!
🐉💞🐓
Ah, merci beaucoup! I feel much better already! 🤣😉😘😘
Mon plaisir, ma chère!
So glad you do 😉 xoxoxoxo
🤗😘🤗😘🌺😘🤗😘🤗
Beautiful post so well researched. I was thrilled to read the Indian Navagraha (Nava means 9) each graha having great significance to Astrologist. Thank you dear Marina and cheers for a lovely weekend. 🙂
Ah, thank you, my dear Dilip! Weekend almost gone so, here’s to a great week ahead! 🙂
Oh my! I think I like this even better! Especially that final dragon/serpent in those fiery colours.
Off to Stephen’s page to check out more nine trivia.
You’re so right, Marina. It’s as if the #9 took over you creativity. I love this. The information if wonderful but your dragon and K9 doggie are both outstanding. I will have to go over to Steve’s blog. Thank you for sharing your artwork.
Isadora 😍
Oh, thank YOU, my dear Isadora! I’m so glad you like my nines [especially dragon and doggie!!!] Have a lovely weekend, my dear! 🙂
It’s easy to see that 9 is your favourite Number.. 🙂 Love the colour combinations and How clever is the Dragon 🙂 Love that one 🙂 xxx ❤

Beautiful and fascinating intellectually at the same time!
Thank you, my dear friend. I hope you’ve already visited, Bumba’s page. I’m sure you’ll find common ground! 🙂
thanx — this was fun! (really!)
Ah, so glad you had fun with it! 🙂
Beautiful artwork, Marina.
Thank you, Meanderer. Happy Monday and new week! 🙂 Loved your “Wind Flowers”! 🙂
Thank you, my friend 🙂 A Happy New Week to you, also!
Beautiful study of the number 9 Marina. I love the bold color, and K-9 is cute. He looks pettable.
“pettable” I like that!! Well, the model was very pettable!!!! Thank you, my dear Donna. Have a lovely week. 🙂
As a mathematician, I am fascinated by the inner life of numbers and together with your wonderfully bright art, it makes this piece delightful. As children we would play the 9 number by multiplying and adding back to 9.
We also played with nine as children! 😉 What a compliment, my dear Carmen! Thank you so much! 🙂
Fascinating. As they said in the old days its dressed to the nines. 🙂
In Folklore, Genre Fiction and Occult tradition The Nine were secret semi-immortals who were guiding/controlling the destiny of humanity. The concept grew out of concept of nine fates or Three Norns.
Ah…. thank you for the insight on this beautiful number! 🙂
Quite the collaborative effort. On the image with the 9 that has the enclosed text, did you do the research or he?
The information inside the 9 [image] was my research, but the rest, as well as the follow up post: “More on nines’ https://bumbastories.wordpress.com/2015/09/09/more-on-the-nine/ was Steve’s. I know you are an expert on numbers [among other things!] 🙂
Thanks for the link .. Just visited.
🙂
Your pictures look great on my blog, but here they are just terrific. Thanks for the kind words. I sent you the photo you asked about, and then I went ahead and did another 9 or 99 post. Haste makes waste, and cats have nine lives. However, they proceed carefully when in a room full of rocking chairs.
Well, as they say: a stitch in time saves nine!!! 😉 I loved the 99 post!!! 🙂
Marina I am delighted to see your love of 9. For a long time I studied Numerology and discovered the power of 9. Your post has informed/reminded me of just how much it has pervaded our daily lives. As you point out it is a perfect number. Not able to divided yet always multiples to be added up to itself. For those that are 9’s it demands the very best for it contains all other numbers.
Thanks for this wonderful post!
Ah, so then you know much more about nine than I do! My attraction to it was instinctive and aesthetic. Thank you so much for the feedback! Have a lovely Thursday! 🙂
In-tuition is always the best teacher! Thanks Marina and keep spreading the love and beauty of YOU!
very special caleidoscope, dear Marina! I love the dragon (as you know some of my writings are including dragons….) Hugs and kisses :-)claudine
I know I know!!!! Thank you, my dear Claudine! Have a beautiful Thursday!! Love and hugs and xxxxxxx [lots] 🙂
Well done , Marina! It’s very fine, sublime, on time, well defined, 3 trine, my kind of mind, a sign, red wine & food to dine! 😀
Will visit Steve!
Divine!!!!!
Thank you so much sweetie!!! 🙂
xxxxxxxx
Cheers to Nine!
Cheers!!!! 🙂
Great! Have a good week, Marina!
Thank you, Richard! You too!!! 🙂
Love this one, love nine also (my birthday month).
Thank you, my dear Val! A beautiful and Happy Birthday month, my dear! 🙂
can see how magical 9 is for you in these artisticcomposites – the dragon is magical
So glad you enjoyed these journeys of nine! I hope you visit Bumba’s page, who is the cause of these artistic composites! 🙂
thought so & will do
🙂
wonderful post 🙂 I had no idea about 9, thank you for sharing! that was a lot of research you did for this!!! appreciated – cheers, Debi
Ah, Debi, it was all because of Bumba’s invitation to co-write a post on 9. I hadn’t plan for such an outcome, but it was all pure fun! 🙂 I hope you visit his page! 🙂
Great post and amazing images! Thanks for sharing all this, I didn’t know much of it.
My dear Kabir, thank you. I hope you visit Bumba’s blog. It was his invitation which gave me the opportunity to do this! 🙂
You’re most welcome, Marina. Yes, I did visit his blog and found it really amazing. 🙂
🙂 I knew you would!! 🙂
Well done, I didn’t know all of this.
Thank you, my dear Gilly. Glad i could share a little info about my favorite number. Please visit Bumba’s blog [if you haven’t already], who is responsible for this! 🙂
The mystic of nine, which my date of birth also adds to, very awesomely captured, marina, as only you can. Thalia in Greek is the muse of comedy, in India’s Hindi, it means applause, and that is what I will give you, a big Thalia….best wishes.
Raj, my friend, a big Thalia to you for your kind words and for being born on a perfect number! 😉 Warmest wishes to you.
Me too I love the last dragon. Nice work Marina. I like all the math in your music 🙂
Ah, Carla, thank you! Do you also love dragons? I’m so fond of those faces! 😉
Your images are always beautiful, Marina, and you really captured the best of number 9! I particularly love 9-ball and that amazing, dramatic dragon. 🙂
My dear Debra, thank you so much. It was so much fun doing and I owe it to Bumba for inviting me. 🙂
Superb Marina – a brilliant approach of illustrating the meaning of 9 to you in the most creative melding of “nine” concepts.
So glad you enjoyed this, Mary. Credit goes to Bumba for his kind invitation! Check out his blog -if you haven’t already! 🙂
K9s, billards, and dragons.
Love the meshing of literature, art and the “perfect language” of math
🙂 Yep, perfect it is! 😉 Thank you, my friend. 🙂
Significant for me as well, as it is my lucky number, and the number of the month of my birth day! Jean-Jacques
Ah, so a very Happy Birth Month, my dear Jean-Jacques! 🙂
Fascinating number. I like your take on it, Marina. I love the last image especially!
Ah, thank you! 🙂
Really great! 🙂
Thank you very much! 🙂
Cool
Thank you, Jo! 🙂
Well you’ve had some hard work – and fun? – with the project. Handy to have the muses in there. I can always remember 6 of them – but never the same ones! And never all 9. RH
Well, fun basically and just that! Bravo for remembering 6! I’m Greek and I had to look them up! 😉
Beautiful. I love the colors. Wonderful together and all the cultural images and reminders. Well and charmingly done.
Oh, thank you Jamie! 🙂
