June is here!

According to Ovid, there are two etymologies for the name. One is that it is named after the Roman goddess Juno, and the other that the name comes from the Latin word iuniores, meaning “younger ones”.
For us looking up at nights, watch for meteor showers:
The Arietids [May 22 to July 2 each year, and peaks on June 7]
The Beta Taurids [June 5 to July 18] and
The June Bootids [26 June and 2 July each year]
Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere & Winter Solstice in The Southern Hemisphere is June 20 this year.

June has arrived with a heavy schedule, leaving minimum room for ‘playtime’. My presence here might be limited but I will catch up!  😉

that the June rains
just fall.”

About months & numbers: Back in September 2015, inspired by Bumba’s “The Numbers Game Is Here: Mathematics for DummiesThe Whole Nine Yards, I started working on images for each month. First month was September, so this series will be completed in August 2016!

  1. I went to the Aegean
    And plunged into the Sea
I dove down to the bottom
    Where all the oysters be

    I told the biggest oyster
A joke to make him laugh
He coughed a pearl into my hand
    The size of a giraffe

I swam up to the surface
    And jumped upon my bike
    And pedaled to Olympus
And up it I did hike

    I reached Marina’s studio
    Alas, she was away
Pearl Six was on her easel
    As luminous as Day

I looked down at the pearl I’d brought
    It now seemed rather tainted
    Nature, alas, cannot compete
    With what Marina’s painted

    • To the Anonymous Hippo Pontimus, award-winning poet:
I wish I could have replied much much earlier [like a month ago! 😉 ],
however your poem sent me spinning round the earth,
      nay, the solar system,
      nay, the constellations…
      and back
      leaving me breathless
      and
      speechless!
All the pearls on earth are not enough to express my gratitude!
      Merci cher poète!

  2. The orange is the perfect complement to the beautiful purply-grey tones in the rose. Adore that Duke Ellington piece. Was wondering if my choice of music says something about my personality? Happy rest of June dear Marina😘

  3. Dearest Marina,
June is racing by me. It is the month of my dear departed mother’s birthday. She loved Lily of the Valley flowers. I’m working long days, 7 days a week. 3 more weeks & I will have my life back.
Your painting is fab, and I can hardly wait to do our 3 bloggers post. Well, take care & love & peace from Ottawa! xoxoxo

    • My dear Resa – it has taken a long time for me to get here, hasn’t it?!!!! Seems we are both over our heads with work lately. Hope you get your life back soon!
I too can’t wait for our collaboration!
Enjoy this month [what’s left of it] with love and many hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxx 🙂

  4. Lovely artwork Marina. And oh no.. June is already half way through. And I am only just getting here..
Loved the music choice, I am listening at the moment to the top video as I type.. Very beautiful.
It has brightened up a very rainy week..
I hope you have a wonderful weekend dear Marina.. And I hope the Sun shines down on all you do..
Love and big hugs dearest friend.
    Love Sue xx ❤

    • I know, June is going fast! I’ve been busy too and haven’t been ‘around’ much lately. Your presence here has brightened my [very very very very -and then some- HOT] day! Love and many hugs to you, my sweet friend. 🙂 xxxxxxxxx

  5. Beautiful artwork… love the colors and the way the shape of the rose is amalgamated with the other shapes… sending love dear Marina. Aquileana 🎇 ~

  6. (Not your beautiful rose in black and white, but you offer it willingly)

Gather ye rosebuds when it’s time,
because the time you know that flies …
and the same flower that blooms today
    Tomorrow will wither.

I never could figure out if the beautiful people have an innate tendency to grow roses or are roses in their growth to make beautiful people.
Marina, definitely, yes more beautiful than a rose, more fragrant of a flower.
    A flower herself.

    Hello Marina
Warm greetings from Italy by hug

    Ninni in Bologna

    Ciao e buona giornata

PS:Ένας αγαπητός, αγαπητέ, Χαιρετίσματα στην όμορφη Αθήνα σας

    🙂

    • Grazie dal profondo del cuore, carissimo amico.
Time flies indeed, so my wish to you is that each second passing is filled with more beauty and joy than the previous one.
Greetings to beautiful Bologna and blessings to you, my dearest Ninni! 🙂 🙂

  7. Marina, a perfect design for one of the most beautiful months of the year – from the pearl to the rose deep within and the brilliant splash of color – it makes this a favorite for me. I know it’s a busy time for you, best wishes – take care my friend. I love your creativity!!

    • Thank you… thank you so much, Mary for your sweet words. So happy to see you back. Hopefully by the beginning of July I’ll be back more actively blogwise! 🙂

  8. Dearest Marina,
I was in tears and my heart full of pain… I am too far away to do something about this, and even if I could, I don’t know how to start… but see by yourself.

    https://claudinegiovannoni.com/2016/06/12/report-of-animal-abuse-in-moscow/

Do you have any connection with some activist who is living there? Is there any possibility to get attention from someone “high enough” to take action?
My God, this is such a disgusting and terrible situation…
    😦 😦

Sorry for giving you this burden to look at… but I know how you are dear and loving towards animal, our best friends…

  9. I finally made it to the glorious toast to 6 and June. Great artistic impression … the summer sun, the number, the very beautifully done embedded rose. WOW! .. and the color palate is a well done the sun’s pop around the subtle colors. Well done, Marina!

    • Oh… I’m so late here!!!! I’ve been working overtime lately and hadn’t been able to be around much. [this is probably going to be the case to the beginning of July] Thank so much for that WOW, my friend. So happy you enjoyed my 6/June interpretation! 🙂 Have a lovely week. 🙂

  10. Like I do most of my ‘online reading,’ I loaded this when in town and read it offline at the property.. wow, what a bonus post – full of color and info, though I was unable to tap into the music….

you are definitely the renaissance woman!

    until next time online,
    lisa

    • Oh, Lisa, you are so kind and sweet 🙂 Thank you so much! [my time online isn’t much ‘better’ – finishing a project has kept me from being very active blogwise.] Wishing you a beautiful week, my friend! 🙂 xxxx

  11. Happy June to you, my friend! Glad to keep you on your toes. All those links you do, thank you. I never heard that Ellington song before. Your blog keeps adding new dimensions and I am always impressed. 🙂 And a Happy June!

    • Oh, I’m delighted to know that you heard this Duke song from me and you do keep me on my toes! After all you started this and I’ll keep repeating how grateful I am! Happy June, my friend. Loved this version [too] of “St. James Infirmary”, you posted today! [https://bumbastories.wordpress.com/] 🙂

      • Yeah, we hit that one just right sometimes. As for the numbers there’s plenty of them. I like to joke with you, but I do appreciate all your kindness and support. And I think you can do a real nice thing with seven, hint hint

  12. Ahh my birth month, but I’m not keen on pearl as my birthstone. Opals would be nice though 🙂
Striking sunshine and rose unfolding, beautiful as always, happy days dear Marina!

    • Ah – great! Happy Birth Month, Gilly and thank you so much for your lovely words! 🙂 I’m also not very keen on pearls. May your month be full of joy and beauty, my sweet friend! 🙂 xxxx

  13. Marina, how wonderful! Your posts are always so inspiring! Thank you for this, and Happy June to you! ~xx

  14. A beautiful tribute to the month of June. And as Bern Williams says “If June could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance”! Thank you so much dear Marina and best wishes for your assignments 🙂

      • Oh Marina today for us its the 30th of June but hardly any rain 😦 So it only goes to prove mother nature can’t do much if we continue to destroy our forests and green covers. However the only redeeming factor is that many other parts of the country is getting good rains and the quote by Onitsura stands vindicated:
        “I know well
        that the June rains
        just fall.”

        Best wishes always 🙂

        • Ah, my dear Dilip, I hope that by now you’ve seen rains! Let’s hope that we haven’t reached the point of no return after our destructive intervention to this beautiful planet… I am sorry for my late response but I’ve been very busy -so much that I am now taking a short break to clear my mind off and continue afterwards. Sending you my very best wishes too [and rain also! 😉 ]

          • Got it dear Marina your good wishes and God has been kind we’ve had some good rain with our dams up-to 40% full. Great weather too. 🙂

Oh Marina please please no issues on being late to reply. Blogging is fun only when we have the time. 🙂

You take care and wish you best of everything in whatever you do. 🙂

            Regards

  15. Thank you for this…6 is my number in so many magic ways in my life…we all have a ‘number’, don’t we? And so June is a favorite month, glorious transition from spring to summer. Pearl Six’ is sun and moon, two breasts, fertility and desire…

    • Beautifully put, John [sun & moon] and I love that number too [albeit mine is the upside down 6: 9 😉 ] I only hope my interpretation didn’t let you down. Enjoy your month, my friend! 🙂

  16. Hard to tell if the music I hear colour my thoughts comes from Mehldau & Matheny and The Duke, or the magical colouring and rhythm of your design!

    • Awww…. I think it’s probably their music! I can tell you however that your words definitely colour my thoughts! Thank you, my dear Jean-Jacques. 🙂

  17. I always feel so blessed to embrace another of your alluring creations! My heart easily fills with smiles seeing the colors come alive and your messages! May your June be full of wonderful blessings Martina!

    • My dear dear Wendell, it is your presence that’s a blessing and the kindness of your heart. Thank you, my dear friend! 🙂 May you June be a wonderful one too! 🙂

Happy to hear your thoughts
