August • 8 • 08:00 • 2016
and with August, I complete my artistic journey of months and numbers. A journey that began in September 2015*. There will be a post with all of them together, some time soon
but on with this summer month…
……………………………………………………………
• August colors: Orange, Red & Light Green
• August Birthstones: Peridot & Sardonyx
Also Diamond, Jade & Sapphire
• August Flowers: Gladiolus & Poppy
• Words of the month: integrity, friendship, love, marriage, remembrance
Also symbolizes strength of character.
• Astrological signs: Leo & Virgo
• August was named in honor of Augustus Caesar and has 31 days because Augustus wanted as many days as Julius Ceasar’s July!
• Meteor showers that take place in August are the The Kappa Cygnids, The Alpha Capricornids [July 10 – August 10], The Southern Delta Aquariids [mid July to mid August] and The Perseids [July 17 – August 24], so be sure to take a peek on the August night sky! 😉
• The star cluster of Messier 30 is best observed around August.
About 8:
• According to numerology, 8 is the great Karmic equalizer, a force that just as easily creates as it destroys. It balances the material and immaterial worlds. Drive, ambition, authority, efficiency, organization, management, discipline and control are some of its characteristics.
• 8 is the first number which is neither prime nor semiprime.
• Eight Ball. The game played with a cue ball and 15 numbered balls, the black ball numbered 8 being the middle and most important one [last one to be pocketed by the …winner!]. – I do miss a good ol’ game of pool… 😉
• A byte is eight bits.
• 8 is the atomic number of oxygen.
• In music, an octave, the interval between two musical notes with the same name (where one has double the frequency of the other), is so called because there are eight notes between the two on a standard major or minor diatonic scale.
For much much more August & number 8 check Bumba’s, “The Bumbastories’ August Magazine: Bi-Centennial Edition: Something I Eight”
and, of course: Frank‘s Salutes To Numbers

* About months & numbers: Back in September 2015, inspired by Bumba’s “The Numbers Game Is Here: Mathematics for Dummies” The Whole Nine Yards”, I started working on images for each month. First month was September and with August 2016, alas it is completed! Thank you for the inspiration, Steve! 🙂

I’m sitting here looking at the leaden sky and the incessant rain – your gorgeous vibrant colourful work is exactly what I need to lift my spirits. Fascinating info about the number 8 too. Thank you Marina x
So happy to hear that, Pam! Thank YOU, my dearest friend! 🙂 xxxx
Exquisite!! Like two souls from different worlds who have cast off their isolation and rejoiced at finding the jewel of love!! It also reminds me of a snowman I built once, using orange and green snow. I put a ring I got out of a gumball machine in its navel, and told people it was a peridot… : )
Oh, I would love to have seen it!!!! This would have been a wonderful contribution to MoMA! But No, I have orders from mount Olympus: everything Mark Armstrong creates will be exhibited at a special place at the Kindness, Creativity and Ingenuity Museum [KCIM]
Beautiful design my dear Marina! Love colors, soft curves❤️❤️❤️
xxxxx
Thank you, my dear Violet! Hugs to you and Malus! 🙂 xxxx
Wonderful end to this undertaking. August in this part of the globe means monsoon – floods in half the country and drought in the other half. On a different plane this is a month full of festivals – specially Lord Krishna’s birthday, that is celebrated in all regions.
Cheers.
I hope August monsoons were kind to all and you’ve enjoyed the festivals! Thank you for your kind words, YS, they are always greatly appreciated! Happy September, my friend. 🙂
Happy September and yes we enjoyed the festival season. Thank you.
You always make life complete every month with what you share Marina. My mind has been on a different plain, it seems the Spirit is moving within and filling me with new things. Being a number 22, leaves my ears and heart always open to Him! Maybe as the month of September comes to life, I will pen something for you my dear sister! Hugs and blessings!
Many hugs and blessings to you, my dearest Wendell. Keep shinning, my friend! 🙂
First, let me sat that I love the music of Dexter Gordon in August Blues. Thank you for introducing me to this music. Isn’t it astonishing how quickly a project we set out to do is completed. I feel like it was last month that I started reading your wonderul monthly posts. Well done, MArina. I’ve enjoyed them all. 😍
Your artwork for this month is perfection. ♥️
I found peridot to be a soothing semi-precious gemstone when I made jewelry with it. The color is intirguing; many people would confuse it with jade.
I hope your enjoying Hera and your last days of summer.
Isadora 😎
You define creativity, my lovely friend.
That has to be the ultimate compliment for an artist especially when it’s coming from a special friend. Thank you for your kindness, my friend, it means ALOT! 🙂
Likewise.
Very cool! And, veryinteresting historical facts
Thank you very much, Rajiv. So glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Beautiful design Marina – wonderful curves of 8 with it’s coordinated colors of the month. Love it as we celebrate the waning days of summer my friend. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
Thank you, my dear Mary. Yes, the waning days of summer – although over here we avoid saying that – just yet. September is also a vacation month and probably best one as it is quieter. 🙂 So happy you liked my August. 🙂 Wishing you a beautiful week ahead, my dear friend. 🙂 xx
Thank you my friend, I hope you have the most enjoyable August days and for you a deserved rest during September. I’m hoping to hear that you have finished with your heavy schedule for a while. Take care and also sending wishes to you for a wonderful rest of week.
Simply lovely, Marina! Hope you had a good weekend.
Thank you, my dear Richard! Hope you’re having a beautiful August! 🙂
Eight is also infinity standing upright!
Indeed!!! 🙂 🙂
Beautiful and creative attributes for the month of August. And the striking colours too are a perfect fit for August. Loved my old time favorite ‘Eight Days a Week” so nostalgic! 🙂
Cheers dear Marina and be very well!
Cheers to you, my dear friend and so happy I picked a favorite song of yours. Here’s to a happy and colorful August [dashes of nostalgia are welcomed too! 😉 ] You too be very well, my dear Dilip! 🙂
I like how you combine simple shapes, bold colors, and YOU for a delightful design! xxoo
…and what a delightful comment to read, my dearest Christy! Thank you, my friend! 🙂 xxxxxx
Love all the orange!
Thank you, my dear Jess! 🙂
I 8 this one up Marina and it was delicious, all of it. I find it interesting that the 8 in your painting is cropped in such a way that it is no longer an 8 but something else equally beautiful and mysterious. Two pots balanced on each other maybe with the magic point of touch expressed with the summer sun circle. Gorgeously August
Oh, so it was you!!!!!! So pleased you enjoyed it. Indeed the 8 is no longer an 8, as I travel round its curves. How beautifully said, John. Thank you, my dear friend. May your August be deliciously gorgeous! 😉
What a wonderful look at August. I am partial to this combination of colors, Marina. The design is very soothing, and that’s a perfect contribution to August, a rather harsh month where I live. 🙂
Ah, Debra, how lovely to hear that! Thank you so much and I do wish you a soothing August -not harsh! 🙂 xx
“Just like I need you” !
Your painting makes me see a woman’s figure & her solar plexus. “8 days a week is not enough to show I care”
Sometimes the abstract is exacting. I love your work.
I anxiously await the gift that should arrive any day! My sweet friend, please give Hera a big kiss for me… & maybe a doggie treat? Big hugs & many kisses!
Oh! S6 says my clock is ready to ship & I will get a tracking # when it’s on its way! xxoxoxo
Awwwwwww……. what a wonderful thing to say, Resa! Eventhough I call my work abstract, there is nothing abstract about it to me [however weird this sounds!] 😉
Yay! their tracking info is quite accurate too! I can’t wait for you to get it!!!!!!! 🙂
May August fill your heart with joy, my dearest friend! 🙂 love & hugs xxxxxxxxxxxx
Given that many of us associate August with hot sunny days, your color palate is excellent. Outstanding music choices as well. Here are two for you … August and Eight.
Julie London https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zGBcDT8eHc&feature=youtu.be
Gordon Lightfoot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTu_Uu0TgTQ
Oh, that Julie London was anticipated [ 😉 ] and what a beautiful voice and song by Gordon Lightfoot! 😉 Thank you so much for the contribution and of course for all your wonderful words, my friend! Have a lovely August, Frank! 🙂 Here’s one more: Cold Wind In August – Van Morrison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K43337TvkdU 🙂
Van Morrison is a treasure … many thanks!
🙂 🙂

May you have a great week, all eight days. Hard to believe you already did a full year of these. I am happy to have gotten you started, and re-posts, OK call them anniversary editions, will also be welcome. Happy August, my friend!
And, in China 888 means good fortune.
Yes!!!!! 🙂
