Nosmo-King™

Humor, for a change!

As the Greek government is passing very strict laws on smoking, I thought it appropriate to publish one of the “Paraphernalia“, Anakreon Kanavakis [my father] created, back in 1996.
Convincing people to cut down on smoking, is one [good] thing… marginalizing them as persona non grata though, is a whole other story!
If they consider smoking, health damaging then why are cigarettes still being sold?
If they are so concerned about our health, why don’t they ban children from handling cell phones too?
These coming from a person who used to smoke 3 packs a day and quit some 20 years ago and who since then couldn’t [still can’t] stand the smoke from a distance!

Original cartoon created by Anakreon Kanavakis,

published in his book titled:

Paraphernalia

1996

Text next to the cartoon:

translation:

A seat exclusively for smokers.
It includes an airtight mask,
from which no smoke can escape,
while on the front part there is
a screen which shows footage
from lung surgeries, suicides,
tax inspections etc.

• Meantime, a polaroid camera
captures the smokers expressions.
These shots can be distributed
to non-smokers with champagne.

– The Nosmo-King™ is ideal
for airplanes, buses* etc.

*…of course since 1996, smoking is banned on airplanes and buses, so an update could be: waiting rooms, work places etc.

  1. Whoa, whoa, whoa–!! Your pappy was a cartoonist??? Totally excellent, and very, very cool!! I can see how a certain seed musta got planted!! Love the cartoon, thanks for sharing that. Now I must go steal a phone from a baby, and order some ambrosia take-out!! 👶🔨📱🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨😋

    • I grew up watching him in awe mixing his ecolines. He has all these beautiful little bottles of liquid color in front of him and I still love to watch the process of dipping the paintbrush… such vibrant colors and he’s so happy when he does that… so I may have caught on that excitement with colors! I’m so glad you liked it! 🙏… more ambrosia your way!!!!! 🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨

  2. Ahhh, I see where part of your talent comes from!
    I adore the cartoon!!!!!!!
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo Too, bad Hera can’t read. She would love it!

    • I was fortunate to grow up in an artistic home. I loved watching my dad mix his ecolines and paints while hearing so much music…
He’s created many such ‘crazy’ machines under the title ‘Paraphernalia’, Every time I see them I burst with laughter! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I showed it to Hera and I’m pretty certain I saw her laugh… her tail gave it away! 😉 xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

      • 😀 Lucky you! I grew up in a broken alcoholic home and ran away in my teens.
However, My N’s family are insanely creative. His dad was a TV director, Play Writer, and artist. He did mostly paintings. His mom did textile arts, mostly Batik. His bro is a photographer, and ,my N is a musician, arranger, composer….

  3. Now I see that art runs in your blood. A vividly visual cartoon but as you say smokers are pariahs whereas drinkers, gamblers, phone addicts etc are largely left to their own devices (literally too!)
[from an ex smoker of 8 years – I still don’t mind the smell though clouds of sweet and sickly vapes are less welcome]
