As a musician and painter I’ve always listened to music while painting…
never the other way round though.
However, this one is about music moving my hand on canvas and although this was not the music I was listening to when I painted this ‘Character’, it may well had been.
In this version too, with Anne-Sophie Mutter. I was 11 when I first listened to it and I still remember each and every note. Dad too, who caught me putting it on the turntable when I wasn’t allowed anywhere near the stereos! 😉 Had been doing that since the age of 7 but hadn’t been caught – I was really good remembering every detail of the process [carefully handling the record without leaving fingerprints, gently cleaning with this special vinyl cleaner -curved velvet with a beautiful wooden handle]- while it was turning and then carefully placing the needle on the record… then: magic!] I bless him for having such an amazing music library…
I know that one day my M. Bruch imaginary landscapes will re-emerge.
Till they do…

I sincerely hope this version is available to all my friends [no mp3 to upload… it’s in vinyl!]
In case it doesn’t work though – next best version [to me] is with Heifetz.

Lovely, Marina. The music is enchanting. I adore classical music of every kind but had not heard Max Bruch before. Thank you for the introduction. Music is magical in so many ways. You were blessed to have had a father who had such a good collection. I’m sure he knew of your antics but didn’t want to discourage your curiosity. Parents know things that a child doesn’t think they know. He was opening your heart to great notes of music for you to enjoy forever. BRAVO, Dad.
Your painting, as always, is inviting us to enjoy the blending of two souls into a combined circle. Beautiful …. Be Safe … 😷 🙏🏻 😊 💜
Isadora 😎
Awww…. my dearest Isadora what a sweet comment! I do owe him a lot. I remember admiring him while he was painting, watching the movement of his paintbrush mesmerized! As for my antics… well, some of them he learned many years later. He was very sensitive about the handling of his hi tech stereos! 😉
Thank you for your beautiful words about my painting…
You too be safe and happy!
Love and hugs 🤗😘❤️
and special kisses from Hera to Cappucino & Espresso! ❤️🐾
Beautiful!
Thank you! 🙂
I feel the connection within the painting. It’s great! Like you, I listen to music (but I write, don’t paint). It keeps my thoughts moving.
Ah, what a lovely thing to say! Thank you very much! I know what you mean! Have a beautiful June!
Loved the painting, but my favorite “image” was Marina the Kid carefully wiping her fingerprints off her dad’s records (I’ll bet he knew it all the time!). You could have had a great career as a criminal mastermind. Oh, well… 😅🍨😋
You may be right on a criminal occupation*… who’d have though my life would take such a different turn! 😉
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

*I did cover my tracks perfectly, only once was I blown. The time I tried to place a tape the wrong way and the door wouldn’t close! To think that I found a turntable easier to handle huh?!!!!!!!😂🤣😂🤣😂
nice painting
Thank you. 🙂
This is beautiful. You have such a graceful and delicate hand with the brush. Artists who often work to music are sometime synthesist. Are you? My old friend a brilliant linguist and poet always wrote to music and was a synthesist, I miss him, he passed away but was the the first I learned about synthesists. Gorgeous work Marina. Sending love!
I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend… You might be right eventhough I don’t really follow a specific ‘school’. My process has always been intentionally learn, unintentionally forget! 😉 Thank you so much, my sweet friend. Have a lovely Sunday! ❤🌺❤
Well, I think you’re brilliant and Oannes too. ❤️❤️❤️
Awwwwwwwww…..super blushing!
….coming from my brilliantly gifted friend! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Beautiful! I also color and paint a bit, always listening to music. Also when I write I like to do that as well – helps a lot to get through the rush you get from being inspired, cheers!
Does doesn’t it?!! Thank you very much for your visit and kind words! 🙂
Love the paintings and the remembering about handling vinyl. Music is a love that I have never understood. Some of my artist friends say they see music. I never could. That doesn’t mean I love it less. Listen loud and laugh much
Thank you very much for your kind words and visit! What you say about music puzzles me… if you love music [“That doesn’t mean I love it less”] then how can you not understand the love for music? 😉
On a note, I never did ‘see’ music. Music to me is a whole experience… notes it is and that completes me. I see no images.
🙂
For me Music just is. There is nothing to understand. Like laughter it happens. You make music I make laughter I know the mechanics but will never know why they work
No need to either! 😉 The ‘mechanics’ is a thing to learn and forget. As you say, nothing to understand!
Totally agree with painting while listening to music, for me I can’t get into painting without music. I listen to all sorts depending on my frame of mind.
I’ve always felt that music is a more ‘standalone’ art than other artforms. I agree on ‘all sorts’ depending… It’s amazing what can drive you while painting. I once had a very short loop playing over and over… 😉
Thank you for your visit and words! 🙂
Talking about a short loop I do sometimes find that I keep playing the same album over and over until a painting is finished… which can take a while sometimes. Thank you for replying to my original comment keep smiling.
I know what you mean! 😉 Thank YOU, for commenting! …and you too keep smiling! 🙂 🙂
Thanks for looking at my website and the likes much appreciated. 😊😊
My pleasure! …and I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful work! 🙂
Great❤❤
Thank you very much!!!! 🙂 🙂
Great job
Ah thank you very much! 🙂
Greetings! I love your work and how thought evoking it is. You’ve tackled big ideas and concepts with poetry! I’m in love with your work and a huge fan😊 I was wondering if you could checkout my new piece on young rappers trying to create work that not only lasts but sets an impression. And I would really appreciate it if you could comment some feedback to improve the writing style. Looking forward to hearing from you. – Kiran
Ah, thank you so much for your kind words, Kiran! They are truly appreciated!
I will do! 🙂
Have a lovely day [and month!] 🙂
This is fantastic! I wonder do the paintings have similarities according to genre?
Hi, Alice anf thank you for stopping by and commenting! They do indeed. One is technique (watercolors, oils, acrylics mixed media etc) and the other is style (impressionism, pointillism expressionism, realism, abstract etc) If however you’re referring to similarities to music genre, I don’t think there are any… officially, anyway. 🙂
What great memories, and beautiful artwork. I look forward to seeing more.
Ah, thank you very much for your visit and kind words. 🙏😊
beautiful art work. I’m a violinist/violin teacher who wish to deaw. 🙂
Thank you very much for the visit and kind comment! I hope you try it! 🙂
I’m grateful to anyone who promotes classical music. The Bruch concerto remains near the top of the violin repertoire. And how about that “heartbeat” beginning at approximately 1:23?
1:23, yes, I know… all too well!!!!!
Thank you very much for visiting and for your kind comment! 🙏 Have a lovely day!
What a beautiful story from your childhood. Many art instructors have their students listen to music too. I’m becoming accustomed to listening to your music selections in the morning with my coffee (and dark chocolate). I know it’s not really fair to compare versions of performances, because it’s so subjective. But…I preferred the Heifetz…so light, so quick, so sublime. Seems a little bit like trying to compare bird song. This music is already brightening my week. Thank you!!!
Coffee and dark chocolate that sound delicious!
Thank you so much, my dearest Mary Jo! I’m so happy to hear that!
On performances, there’s no doubt that Heifetz is a grand master and I love listening to him, however, Mutter was the first version I heard and that itself is sometimes reason enough to like it more, but for the specific work, she performs it as powerful as I would imagine it to be!
Thank YOU!!!!! 😘😚😘
You have me wondering about a you painting while playing the piano. You must be even more talented than I imagined! 😉 Beautiful music …. I’m guessing you were exposed to music at an early age … and that’s great!
A ha ha haaaa….no I don’t paint and play the piano at the same time!!!!! Come to think of it though, I’d have had a very colorful piano, if I did!!!! Hmmm…..
It was great, yes… I owe a lot to my dad’s exceptionally broad and huge music library! 😉
Yamas!
ps Hope you enjoyed your day!!!!!! 😉 🍷
Cheers to the family music library.
The day started with a great start – a personal email from a friend across the Atlantic. I went to the beach with hopes of seeing the sunrise, but it was too foggy – however, I had a good walk as overall conditions where good. Walked a lot on this day – over 33,000 steps. Just the two of us went out for a nice dinner – something that seldom happens down here.
Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate the day and an even better way to end it! Yamas my friend!🙂🍷
Yamas!
Clink! 🍷
I don’t think i could ever paint or draw while primarily listening to music… too much already going on inside… not a big fan of the violin, but I do like these… interesting to compare.. 🎻🎻
I know what you mean, however music works for me in painting. Glad you enjoyed even if not that fond of violin! 😉
I guess it depends on the piece and who’s playing. Sometimes it’s just too scratchy… I have ‘bionic’ hearing in the upper end. Can hear the slightest sounds from upstairs to down. 😃
A ha…. hubs suffers from the same problem. Sounds can become a torture! I, on the other hand have a great natural filter which can block annoying sounds – a censor of sorts! It’s a blessing I think! 😉
I think we are in Nietzsche’s ‘eternal return’! 😁 I am remembering having this discussion some time ago!!! 😁
well… we have a saying here: “repetition is mother to learning”! …or something in that context! 😉 😂🤣🤣😂🤣
lol… you are soooo smart! And right… most of the great scriptures involve lots of repetition! 😁😸🙏👍😊
I don’t know about smart, I know though that I have this not exactly embellishing female feature of a short memory! 😉 😂🤣😂🤣
Well, you deal with a lot more people than me. I’m a speck in your virtual universe! 😁 Incidentally, and fyi… that notion of the eternal return comes from ancient Greece! My guess is the Stoics but I’d had to check.. (yeah… it was… just checked). What do you Greeks NOT do well? 😁
economics!!!! 😉 🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣
hee hee.. well, it seems most countries go thru economic cycles… Greece >> Rome >> Spain >> Portugal >> France >> United Kingdom >> America >> China ?? I’m not a historian so that selective list is prob not in the right order… 😊 All you need is some neo-Aristotle to invent something cool like “anti-gravity!”😊 That would do it!!! 🛸🌟😊
You think?! He’d probably be kidnapped by NASA never to be heard of again! 😉 😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂
lol… well, if it was a woman she might be clever enough to avoid capture! The future is woman. 😃😁👩👩🦰👩🦱👩🦳👱♀️👸
I hope not! 😉
lol… i like women. I often think God did a better design job… and they’re smarter. Let’s face it. 👼
Each one with their own qualities. Women are not smarter then men or vv. Different way of thinking. After all we were built differently. 😉
I guess I value intuitive, ‘putting things together’ more than linear thinking… but you’re right… and it’s a stereotype to say men are always linear and women always more holistic… there are always exceptions on both sides.. 👩🎓👨🎓👩🏫👨🏫👩⚖️👨⚖️👩🍳👨🍳👩🔧👨🔧👩💼👨💼👩🔬👨🔬🧚♀️🧚♂️
Yes, there are exceptions… which as we know in physics, make the rules! 😉 🙂 🙂
Beautiful Music Marina.. and likewise… I get lost while painting and often listen to classical while doing so…. 🙂 Lovely painting…. Enjoy your week my friend… ❤
It’s wonderful isn’t it? As if music guides the paintbrush! So glad you enjoyed. A beautiful week to you too!
🙂
❤😘🤗😘❤
Love it! I’m sure I can see a seahorse in there 🙂 xx
Oh, that’s nice… I see it too now you mention it! Thank you, my dear friend! 😊🤗😘😊
Music and painting are so closely related. I guess only musicians and artists really are tuned to that
To me it’s s one way connection, painting inspired by music, but not the other way. I find music to be a complete experience, no images, just notes. But that’s just me! 😉
I agree with the way you see music.
Music aid in disengaging from the normal existence/world. Allows one step away from shacking preconceptions and daily routines to allow freedom of though and creativity.
Ah… perfectly said!!!! Indeed, my friend! 🙂
Lovely post. Loved the painting and you can never go wrong with Mutter! 😊
Ah, thank you Ken! Yes, I agree on Mutter and even though the second version is with a violin master (Heifetz), she’s really really amazing here… just perfect! 😉🙂
So much talent in one beautiful lady! Love this piece of music and love your Character!
Ohhhhhh…. I’m blushing big time!!!!! Thank you, my excessively kind friend!
Have a wonderful Monday and week ahead!!!!! 😘🤗❤😘🤗
Excessive, eh? 😉 I just call them as I see them! It’s my weekend so it’ll be great! 😘😘
Great!!!! Enjoy!
On kindness… oh, you are! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Oh I will… Plus I have three days off so. Woot!

Oh….how nice!!!!!!!!! Triple enjoy then!!!!!!

Will do!! 😊😘
👍😘🤗😘
sound lovely !
Thank you! 🙏🙂
Okay… music and painting rules.
Paint to music! Music to paint!
I don’t remember my original comment, so this will have to do!
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Paint to music, it is to me. Doesn’t work the other way round. Somehow notes create a completely different sense of being which is so complete that doesn’t need images. To me anyway!
Thank you, my sweet friend… and thank you for persisting!!!!! ❤🤗❤
Happy Monday!❤🤗😘❤🤗😘❤
You too! Happy Monday!❤🤗😘❤🤗😘❤

I love the fluidity Marina
Ah, thank you so much Helen! Happy Monday! 😘
You were a very determined child, Marina. Your love for music, art and creativity has given you a marvelous life journey. I am so glad that we connected – you continue to inspire me to persevere. Hugs!
Determined I was too! I wouldn’t stop until I made the record player play music! And that wasn’t as simple as it sounds. It meant turning on an amplifier, a pre-amplifier [switching it to the right setting/exit] and turntable. An Odyssey for a 7yr old child but all worth it! 😉
You are so very kind and sweet and I can’t tell you how happy I am we connected and likewise, my dearest Rebecca …likewise!
Many hugs your way and love.
xoxoxoxo
You’re a wonderful artist and musician! My friend was a synthesist and always wrote to music. 🎼🎹🎻🎨❤️🌺😊🤗
I agree wholeheartedly!
Awwww………..
Awww….. Holly, you are making me blush!
So your friend knows how it is! 🙂
❤️🌺❤️🌺❤️
It’s very cool to be a senthesist! Love that! ❤️♥️😊💕🤗❣️
I must admit I wasn’t aware of the term synthesist. In many ways, we all are. There is not one thing that we are even if we choose to focus on one. It’s just a matter of not being able to do otherwise, I suppose. …following our nature. Whether that is one thing or three or ten, is not that important. Sending love for a beautiful Monday and week ahead! ❤🤗❤🤗❤
Same to you dear Marina ❤️💖🤗🌺
