March 30, 1853,
was the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh,
a Dutch post-impressionist painter…
but no introduction needed.

And I couldn’t choose a painting to add.

So instead I just picked without thinking!

I can’t think of paintings of his I like less… really!

Sweet post! Happy Birthday, Vincent!

https://twitter.com/earthpages/status/1244865937913909253 Personally, I think he’d laugh. He hardly made a cent while alive because all the numbsculls around him couldn’t appreciate what he was about. 😄
😳I didn’t know!
..and I agree with you! To think that he sold his sketches to fishermen for paper to wrap fish in…
Well at least it wasn’t newsprint! There was a local joint nearby called Penrose Fish and Chips that sold fish in newspaper right up ’till a few years ago… lead poisoning or whaaaaa? 🙄 Good thing they went out of biz…
“You’ve gotten good at that,” Tim Johnston tells the takeout girl, as she wraps his French fries in newspaper.”

😬😯🙄😱
Oh and BTW have you seen the animated/graphic film, Loving Vincent? I highly recommend it. So beautiful!
I I haven’t, I’ll look it out! Thank you!!! 😘
There’s never too much Van Gogh. The passion of his vision expressed in such vibrant colors. Thank as well for the Kurosowa and the Chopin 🙂
Never too much, indeed and I’m very glad you enjoyed AK too! 😘🤗
Excellently presented, Marina. Van Gogh’s genius speaks through his paintings as much as Kurosawa’s appreciative ‘dream’.
Ah, thank you, my dear Raj.
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree! 🙂
Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue
Don McLean
are you familiar with his song?
Oh, well… who isn’t?!!!!!!
…and beautiful words! 🙂 🙂
Wonderful!
How crazy that today, I went through my PVR’d movies and ended upon “Lust For Life”… I started watching it as I scrolled through my emails and fell upon this. Nuts!
Ah…. the other night “At Eternity’s Gate” was playing, with Willem Dafoe. 😉 I’m glad though that my post coincided with Kirk Douglas! 😉 xoxoxoxo

Amazing how they are all favorites. He was that special.
Is, isn’t it?! That special, indeed!
Love all of his paintings. What a great artist he was. I wish he’d had a happier life. 😥
I was thinking just that… such a great artist to live the life he lived…
Many years ago (1993 or 4?) I saw Akira Kurosawa’s film “Dreams”. The person I saw it with hated it, but I thought it was great. I only remember bits and pieces of the film, but I do remember the Vincent van Gogh part. Vincent was great! I love his works.
Hated it?!!!!! What can I say! I also remember parts of it but I do recall being in a dreamstate throughout the whole film! 😉 The ending with Vincent slowly disappearing down his ‘Wheatfield with Crows’ [his last painting!] is so moving…
I’m not sure what was wrong with her, except that perhaps she was into realism…
A ha ha… well, that makes some kind of sense… well, sort of… 😂🤣
And then, I remember seeing the movie version of Orlando with her and she liked that. A man that lives for hundreds of years and turns into a woman? Yes, it was all allegory, but still not really the height of realism. So I won’t make any more excuses for her…
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 nuh!!!!!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Vincent Van Gogh… says it all, for anything else is redundant for it is all said in his paintings!
Indeed, my friend! 🙂
Awesome! One of my Favorite Art Influences…..In my Top 5 for sure.
Needless to mention how much I understand this huh?! 😉
Indeed!
