It is not known whether it was March 28 or April 6, 1483,
that the great Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance, was born,
but as I missed the first date,
and to the displeasure of the Pre-Raphaelites,
here is a small tribute to this great master.
Raphael was born in the small but artistically significant central Italian city of Urbino in the Marche region.
In his 37 years of life he was enormously productive

I didn’t realize that Raphael lived to be only 37. Mozart didn’t quite make it to 36. There are unfortunately many other creative people who never got to be 40 years old.
Sadly that is very true. However, till the 1800s life expectancy was between 30-40! One just wonders what all these masters would have created if they lived longer!

Thank you for highlighting even maybe some of what we have seen and know as looking again and again is never enough to appreciate and understand this artist’s heavenly gift. A master of movement and depth – “The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple” – now I must look up Heliodorus to find out why he was flung out so unceremoniously. The musical accompaniment was an added bonus – thank you
I was only trying to give a glimpse of his talent. Most of his paintings are very well known but it is true that each time one looks, discovers something new! On music, it’s amazing how even the ‘lesser’ musicians of the time, like Willaert [I mean he’s not Orlande de Lassus or Josquin des Prez] produced such divine music. Music, the beauty of which I doubt humanity will ever produce again.

From the 1500s till around the late 1700s, life expectancy was between 30 and 40 years of age, so I guess 37 wasn’t considered very young… amazing isn’t it?! I’m glad 37 is considered very young nowadays! 😉 Still in those few [to us] years, look at how much work he produced!!!! xoxoxo
