Σαν σήμερα, 7 Απριλίου 1945, γεννήθηκε στο Ohningen ο Florian Schneider, ιδρυτικό μέλος των Kraftwerk. Η επίδραση του γερμανικού σχήματος θεωρείται καταλυτική: όντας από τους πρώτους που βασίσθηκαν αποκλειστικά σε ηλεκτρονικά όργανα, περφεξιονιστές του ήχου, εστίασαν σ’ αυτήν την παράμετρο, παρά στη δομή των κομψά αφαιρετικών συνθέσεών τους. Ο τρόπος προσέγγισης των Kraftwerk από τα early ’70s αποτελεί μοντέλο εξέλιξης της ποπ σ’ εκείνη και τις επόμενες δύο δεκαετίες. Από τα αγαπημένα μου δικά τους κομμάτια είναι το “Radioactivity” [1975, “Radioaktivität”, στη γερμανική έκδοση]. Ένα άλλο είναι το “Hall Of Mirrors” απ΄το Trans Europe Express του 1977. Το “V-2 Schneider”, είναι το tribute του οπαδού των K., David Bowie από το Heroes [1977].

On this date, April 7, 1945, Florian Schneider, founding member of Kraftwerk, was born in Ohningen. The German outfit’s impact is considered catalytic: being one of the first to rely solely on electronic instruments, they focused on this rather than the structure of their elegantly minimal compositions. Kraftwerk’s approach from the early ’70s has been the model of pop evolution for this and the next two decades. One of my favorite tracks is “Radioactivity” from the album by the same name [1975, “Radioaktivität”, in the German version]. Another is “Hall Of Mirrors” from Trans Europe Express [1977]. “V-2 Schneider,” is their fan David Bowie‘s tribute, from the album Heroes [1977].
