Σαν σήμερα, 15 Ιουνίου 1843, στο Μπέργκεν της Νορβηγίας γεννήθηκε ο συνθέτης και πιανίστας Edvard Grieg. Από τους επιφανείς εκπρόσωπους του ρομαντικού πνεύματος, ήταν ο άνθρωπος που “έβαλε στον χάρτη” τη σκανδιναβική χώρα, του, εμπλουτίζοντας τη μουσική του με παραδοσιακά της μοτίβα.
Ο Grieg ήταν από τις ασυνήθιστες περιπτώσεις εξαιρετικά δημοφιλούς κλασικού συνθέτη στη διάρκεια της ζωής του. Τόσο που, συχνά βίωνε μια πρωτότυπη μορφή ψυχικής ταλαιπωρίας, νιώθοντας …υποχρεωμένος να απολογείται για μια επιτυχία που στα μάτια των “σνομπ” της εποχής, αποτελούσε ένδειξη χαμηλού καλλιτεχνικού επιπέδου.
Ο χρόνος απέδειξε περίτρανα το αντίθετο.

On this date, June 15, 1843, the composer and pianist Edvard Grieg was born in Bergen, Norway. One of the eminent representatives of the romantic spirit, he was the man who “put on the map” his country, enriching his music with its traditional motifs.
Grieg was lucky enough to be popular during his own lifetime. So popular in fact, that he was feeling sometimes …obliged to apologize for his success, considered by the “snobs” of his time as a sign of low artistic standards.
Time has proved quite the opposite.
