Goya is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries and throughout his long career was a commentator and chronicler of his era. Immensely successful in his lifetime, Goya is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. He was also one of the great portraitists of his time.

So here’s a glimpse of this master’s work

He did amazing works. I can’t add to my previous comment, except to say I am not a fan of religious paintings, although I can appreciate the artsmanship. I’m glad he didn’t focus on those, as his portraits are rare photos, in a sense. He must have been half mad, judging from his madness works.

I only know the artist by name recognition, but not by works. Definitely a variety of styles with a touch of the dark side. The second Sacrifice of Pan has beautiful color!
