Η ιστορία πίσω από αυτό το έργο του μεγαλύτερου οπερατικού συνθέτη όλων των εποχών είναι αρκετά περίεργη : αυτό που ξεκίνησε σαν ιδέα του Βέρντι για ένα Ρέκβιεμ – συνεργασία 12 διάσημων Ιταλών συνθετών, που θα ακουγόταν στην πρώτη επέτειο του θανάτου του Ροσίνι [1869] κατέληξε τελικά, μετά από περιπέτειες, ένα Ρέκβιεμ του Βέρντι για τον αγαπημένο του λιμπρετίστα Alessandro Manzoni. Το μόνο απόσπασμα του αρχικού έργου που περιλήφθηκε σ’ αυτό ήταν το Libera Me.
Ακούμε το πρώτο και το τελευταίο μέρος της λειτουργίας.
Οι συντελεστές : Anna Tomowa Sintow, Agnes Baltsa, Jose Careras, Jose van Dam. Τη φιλαρμονική της Βιέννης, τις χορωδίες της όπερας της Βιέννης και της Σόφιας διευθύνει ο Herbert Von Karajan.

The story behind this work of the greatest operatic composer of all time is quite strange : what began as Verdi’s idea of a collaboration between 12 famous Italian composers, for a Requiem on the first anniversary of Rossini’s death [1869] ended up, as a Requiem by Verdi himself for his beloved libretist Alessandro Manzoni.
The only excerpt of the original work included in it, was Libera Me.
We hear the first and the last part of the mass.
The performers : Anna Tomowa Sintow, Agnes Baltsa, Jose Careras, Jose van Dam.
The Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Opera Choir and the Sofia Opera Choir are conducted by Herbert Von Karajan.
