Orlandus Lassus, or Orlando Di Lasso [one of the greatest representatives of Renaissance polyphonic music, born in Mon, present-day Belgium], puts music to Jeremiah’s Lamentations. Although the text belongs to the Old Testament, referring to the destruction of Jerusalem, Lassus’ [and other conposers’] Lamentations were written to be heard during Holy Week.

We hear the first from the Three Lamentations for Holy Thursday. This is a reference performance from Pro Cantione Antiqua – directed by Bruno Turner.

Enjoy!

Together we have a band MK-O [the music of Marina Kanavaki & Oannes]. So, it’s my pleasure to share with you his [and sometimes mine] musical selections. Do visit his site. He has my highest recommendation!
