Σ’ αυτό το blog δεν έχουμε πρόβλημα με τα “κοινότοπα” τραγούδια. Αυτό είναι απ’ τα αγαπημένα μου όλων των εποχών – και δεν εννοώ μόνο του Sinatra. Η εκτέλεση είναι από το ιστορικό live Sinatra At The Sands.

In this blog we don’t have a problem with “commonplace” songs. This one is one of my favorite of all times, and I don’t mean Sinatra’s songs only. The performance is from the historic live album Sinatra At The Sands.
The album was recorded at the Las Vegas Sands Hotel / Casino in 1966, with Count Basie on the piano and Quincy Jones arranging and conducting the Count Basie Orchestra

❝ When I was seventeen
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for small
Town girls and soft summer nights
We’d hide from the lights
On the village green
When I was seventeen
When I was twenty-one
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls
Who lived up the stair
With all that perfumed hair
And it came undone
When I was twenty-one
When I was thirty-five
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue
Blooded girls of independent means
We’d ride in limousines
Their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five
But now the days are short
I’m in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage
Wine from fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs
It poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year ❞

As always, I’m happy to hear your thoughts, however I’d highly recommend a direct dialogue with the …’source’ [why comments are closed here], so please visit Oannes’ page where you can also listen to the song !

Together we have a band MK-O [the music of Marina Kanavaki & Oannes]. So, it’s my pleasure to share with you his [and sometimes mine] musical selections. • Do visit his site. He has my highest recommendation!
