about

Born in Athens, Greece in an artistic environment bound to inherit the …virus!

Painter and musician at heart [from a very early age] I studied art – design and music in London [UK] and Athens [Greece].

I currently work at my own design studio [ANMAR creative design center], in Athens, and explore new aspects of design.

Attracted to a 3d approach to art, a few years years ago I begun a project “MARWAX” applying my design concepts on wax.

In 2013 this project evolved to MARWORKS with a broader variety of design items.

My work [painting / design] has appeared in Smith’s Gallery Covent Garden in London, Epohes Gallery & Benaki Museum in Athens and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki.

As a musician, I’ve had 2 solo albums released and 4 albums as a member of  MK-O [Marina Kanavaki & Oannes – duet in music and life], with 4 albums out so far.

Our site: www.mk-o.com

My blogging life started back in 2011 at first as an attempt to showcase my work. Through the years, it’s become a place I call my virtual home. A home where I have an open dialogue with so many of you people I call friends. I am truly grateful for your kindness. Through our interaction, I have evolved, so from me to you all good people: THANK YOU!

…and keep smiling. 🙂

Oh, and this is me punching one of my “Characters”! 😉

  13. Hello Marina. I was just out on the balcony watching the sun rise and started wondering what a “Socratic Moment” would look like if you painted it. I was thinking more in line with the Socrates from long ago.

    • I never intended to lose touch, but weird things happen from time to time with the subscriptions. So far I had to go over my list 3 times because for some reason, many subscriptions were switched to ‘receive no mail’. So today when I was checking because I thought I hadn’t heard from many people, I realized you were one of them too.
      So I’m happy you’re back!
      🙂

  24. Your creations are so inspiring, as i look at each i can write a poem to each one! Your talent is awesom and so moves my spirit my sister. Their beauty reminds me of my poetry, yours are truly divine. Thanks for blessing me with your visit and also for following my site. I would love one day to use one of your images in a poem. Just on the blog site with your credit listed on the post! You can choose whether it would be spiritual or romantic,…just give me 4 words to describe what you felt in your heart as you created it! Have a wonderful and bless day Marina!

    • Your comment is a blessing my dear Wendell! Thank you so much. I’d be honored to have any of my work in your blog, whichever inspires you. None of them is of romantic origin, so I’d rather it was a spiritual one, but then, you know better! On the 4 words, I think I’ll leave them to you, the poet! [complete freedom!] Thank you again and have a beautiful day too!

  29. HI Marina,

The picture I choose was War 1990 and here is the story I wrote. I do hope you like it,,I was thinking of making it into a longer short story. I actually did not know the artwork was of a battle,,,I kind of assumed it then read the text on the bottom of the smaller version of the piece afterwards.

I called our story,,Into The Red

It is on my writer and artists site

    http://igotastorylikethat.wordpress.com/

    INTO THE RED

I was told that this war would end all wars and that poets and artists from all the lands would tell of this day for centuries to come. I was told that we would all be immortalized and that our children’s children would be forever honored as the ancestors of us warriors. I was told that the glory of this war would come to me whether I died or survived this battlefield I stand upon today. I was told that dying was a great honor and the warriors to the left of my shield and to the right of my sword would gladly lay down their lives for that honor. I was told that my father, his father and his father fought bravely on this same battlefield and that some here today fought alongside them. I was told that I was born to be what I am, a warrior, here today. I have trained all of my young life for this war. I was told that to be truly happy in this life, one must be true to oneself inherited destiny. I was told these things by the gray haired soldiers’ of past wars who sit on the gilded thrones that float above the snow capped hills high atop the clouds that cover the huts and caves where we live. I was told at the great gathering that I would have the honor to fight. I was told that all who left their homes on this day would share the glory forever and as we marched to the border of our lands we march into history. I was told that the following morning sunrise would signal the start of the war. I was told to make peace with my god and with myself and that upon arrival at the field of battle that I was to kneel and pray to the heroes past, pray for forgiveness of my sins, pray for courage and strength. I was told that upon the rising suns warmth on my shoulder I was to approach my enemy as he approached me. I was told that the fighting would commence upon contact, that there would be one instantaneous clash of bodies and souls. I was told that this battle would last no longer than a breath, a breath taken in and then exhaled outward. I was told that I would know that I had survived the fighting if I rode upon the wave of those who died from the impact.

I remember I was told this just as I felt the sun.

    -Peace

    • Steve,
As my word creating capability is very limited [unlike yours!] I’ll try to “respond” to your interpretation of “War 1990” best I can!
To begin with, THANK YOU! I’m flattered my work gave you a “kick” to write, especially such a “difficult” [not my words] piece of art [War 1990].
I’m amazed how your words hit spot on the core of my feelings when I painted this. Your story is beautifully told and so well done I read it on one breath! Flows naturally to that moving last sentence…
justifying the insanity that is war.
Please accept my appreciation and thankfulness!
      Peace [indeed!]
