Ο Χορός των Ευλογημένων Πνευμάτων, από τον “Ορφέα και Ευρυδίκη”, του ανανεωτή της όπερας C.W. Gluck.

Dance of the Blessed Spirits, from “Orpheus and Eurydice”, written by the opera reformer C.W. Gluck. Baroque given in terms of Romantic [no Baroque instruments] but with unmatched musicality, by Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic.

More about these reblogs

Lately I have been rebloging music videos from Oannes new blog. For my friends who didn’t know, or wonder why…. Oannes [aka Socratis Papahatzis] is my husband, partner in life and music and the one with my undying admiration. Together we have a band MK-O [the music of Marina Kanavaki & Oannes]. So, it’s my pleasure to share with you his [and mine] musical selections. Although here I reblog mainly his musical selections, he writes exceptional articles on various topics [some may need translation], so do visit his site. He has my highest recommendation!

  1. Cool, well you have the talent to merit the benefits of a pro studio. So I guess you took the stems in and let the engineer level it all out? I love mastering… Fiddling with levels, sidechaining, compression… But I’m still learning. For me it takes so bloody long and then nobody likes it! One can get discouraged. But one must also follow one’s muse. 💫

    • In this case, he gets it …more than right. Like many conductors, he has his highs and lows but admittedly, his ‘lows’ are pretty good too. I’ve heard conductors do a wonderful job on a symphony and years later slaughtering it by madly accelerating the tempo!

      • Yeah, it’s fun to compare different versions of the same piece. I find the same thing with piano solos, which I partic. like. The Naxos online music service is really good for comparing. Luckily, we get it through the library here. 🙂

          • It actually carries hundreds of thousands of CDs from most of the major labels… Sony , EMI, Deutsche G., along with Naxos CDs. One of the best kept secrets on the web, which is unfortunate. I think they need a better marketing director! 🙂🙋

                  • p.s. I’m diggin’ your lp on YouTube. Carrying me through a slightly sleep deprived, cold and snowy afternoon.. Also liked your performance at the library. Some really interesting arrangements and playing around with the flow, tempo, etc. 🪐

                    • Awww thank you very much for your kind words! I do hope you managed to avoid getting ‘seasick’ from the shakey camera!!!! 😉 The arrangements were the first ones I did before going in studio to record what was to be my first solo album. Same one was later re-arranged and republished after the death of Elias Petropoulos (poet), by Oannes (my husband and shortly after co-writer of MK-O). I’m really glad you enjoyed our music!

                    • 🤣 (seasick, that’s funny!) But seriously, you both have a lot of talent! I’m a bedroom musician (I use Reaper) and find that my mixes are always a touch uneven. My bedroom isn’t ‘treated” as they say, and I just use different home speakers. No studio monitors, etc. It must be nice to have real gear at your disposal. The CDs production values are really quite impressive. Mature themes evolving over time. I don’t know how you did it! 🙂

                    • You are so generous… thank you! I’m a ‘bedroom musician’ too if by that you mean not having a ‘proper’ recording home studio. Eventhough we do have a small home studio setup, we rarely use monitors to listen and the room is not ‘treated’! In fact I’ve always worked with headphones whether listening or recording. I enjoy the isolation/seclusion [I’m not sure which is more appropriate] and privacy of it. I’m so flattered by your words [and I speak for Socratis -Oannes- too] all the more that we never had any ‘help’ from anyone [producer/arranger etc], solo or as a duet. A big thank you from both! 🙂

                    • Wow it sounds like the cd was done in a major studio. Now I’m really impressed. My bro gave me some awesome phones for mixing but I have unequal hearing in my R/L ears. Right ear is fantastic 20 – 20k Hz, left ear falls short around 20khz (we used outboard motors a lot as kids = loud! 😒) The upshot is uneven hearing. So speakers work better pour moi. I also listened a bit at ReverbNation. Your husband (I assume) was playing a really nice fat synth. Analog4ever! 😇😀

                    • Analog forever indeed!!!!! We both play …depends which one you’re listening to but as a rule boss is the man 😉🤣 and he’s also a master on guitar/bass. Final mixes, voices and mastering were done in a pro studio but everything was more or less ready.
