Ακούμε το Allegretto Quasi Menuetto (ουσιαστικά ένα εκλεκτικό, μελαγχολικό βαλς) από την Σονάτα Για Τσέλο σε Μι Ελάσσονα, έργο 38 του Brahms. Σε ωραία απόδοση από τους Herre-Jan Stegenga και Philippe Entremont, τσέλο και πιάνο αντίστοιχα.
Η αδυναμία του συνθέτη στο τσέλο, και η προτίμησή του για τις πιο σκοτεινές του αποχρώσεις, δεν είναι ίσως άσχετη με την ιδιότητα του πατέρα του Johann Jakob Brahms ως κοντραμπασίστα στην 6μελή μπάντα του Alster Pavillon, εστιατόριου – τόπου συνάντησης στο Αμβούργο. Η ορχήστρα ήταν αφιερωμένη στη “μουσική νυχτερινής διασκέδασης” : ποτ-πουρί κλασικών έργών, κυρίως εισαγωγές και άριες από όπερες.

We hear Allegretto Quasi Menuetto (essentially an eclectic, melancholic waltz) from Johannes Brahms’ Cello Sonata in E Minor, op. 38. Beautifully performed by Herre-Jan Stegenga and Philippe Entremont, cello and piano respectively.
This composer’s love for the cello, and his preference for its darker shades, is perhaps not unrelated to the position of Johann Jakob Brahms, his father as a double bassist in the 6-piece band of Alster Pavillon, a restaurant – meeting point in Hamburg. The band was dedicated to “night entertainment music”: a potpourri of classical works, mainly introductions and arias from operas.
