Σαν σήμερα, 29 Μαρτίου 1943 γεννήθηκε στην Αγριά Μαγνησίας ο Βαγγέλης Παπαθανασίου – Vangelis, διακεκριμένος παγκοσμίως Έλληνας συνθέτης, κυρίως για την κινηματογραφική μουσική του [Όσκαρ για το Charriots Of Fire (1982)]. Η τεράστια δισκογραφία του περιλαμβάνει, πέρα από το [διεθνές] ξεκίνημα με τους Aphrodite’s Child μια σειρά άλμπουμ που από τα ’70s θα του εξασφαλίσουν μια θέση πρωτοπόρου των ηλεκτρονικών. Αξιοσημείωτη είναι επίσης η συνεργασία του [4 άλμπουμ] με τον Jon Anderson, τραγουδιστή των Yes – είχε αρνηθεί ήδη πρότασή του να συμμετάσχει στο συγκρότημα… Ακούμε το “It’s Five O’ Clock” των Aphrodite’s Child από το δεύτερο, ομώνυμό τους άλμπουμ [1969]. Στη συνέχεια το “Création Du Monde” από το L’ Apocalypse Des Animaux [1973],  σάουντρακ για ντοκιμαντέρ της γαλλικής τηλεόρασης, ένα κομμάτι, “Alpha” από το άλμπουμ  Albedo 0-39  του 1976 και τέλος τη μουσική των τίτλων από το σημαντικότερο του έργο, το μεγαλειώδες σάουντρακ για το Blade Runner [1982]  – αυτό για το οποίο θα έπρεπε να έχει πάρει το Όσκαρ…

On this date, 29 March 1943, Vangelis Papathanassiou – Vangelis,  was born in Agria, Magnesia, best known for his cinematic music [Oscar for the Charriots Of Fire OST (1982)]. His huge discography includes, apart from his start with Aphrodite’s Child, a series of albums which from the early ’70s will make his reputation as electronics pioneer. Also notable is his collaboration [4 albums] with Jon Anderson, singer of Yes – Vangelis had already refused a proposal to join the band… We hear “It’s Five O’ Clock” from the second Aphrodite’s Child album by the same name [1969]. “Création Du Monde” from L’ Apocalypse Des Animaux [1973], soundtrack for a documentary on French television, “Alpha” from Albedo  0-39 [1976] and, finally, the music of the titles from his most important work, the magnificent Blade Runner OST [1982] – the one he should have gotten the Oscar for…
