The cover of this song by the Communards seemed amazing to me the first time I heard it. And it still seems the same. Jimmy Somerville has claimed some years ago that he “chose to disappear” because he couldn’t manage getting too much attention. It may be so, although my sense is that, quite simply, the man’s ethos ceased to be compatible with the current show business – not that he was ever “in perfect harmony” with it. What is certain is that his voice and presence have been missed by many… Jimmy Somerville was born on this date, 22 June 1961, in Glasgow.
