Το harmonium, γαλλική εφεύρεση των μέσων του 19ου αι. είναι το οικιακής χρήσεως, μικρό αδελφάκι του εκκλησιαστικού οργάνου.✻
At first I thought of setting up a heavy duty program with church organ music, in the wake of the destruction of the one in Nantes Cathedral.
Then I realized that in the summer, and with the temperature rising, the program might be …too heavy duty.
So here are some short, light or not-so-light, Cesar Franck‘s pieces for [piano and] harmonium.
The harmonium, a French invention of the mid-19th century, is the domestic little brother of the church organ.■

I like the description of the harmonium as “the domestic little brother of the church organ.” My first impression of the music was of a harmonica, which of course has almost the same name.
