Από τους διάσημους εκπρόσωπους του ρομαντικού πνεύματος, ο Νορβηγός συνθέτης και πιανίστας Edvard Grieg [1843-1907] ήταν ο άνθρωπος που έβαλε τη χώρα του στον μουσικό χάρτη, εμπλουτίζοντας το έργο του με παραδοσιακά μοτίβα.
Ο Grieg ήταν από τις ασυνήθιστες περιπτώσεις εξαιρετικά δημοφιλούς κλασικού συνθέτη στη διάρκεια της ζωής του. Τόσο που, συχνά βίωνε μια πρωτότυπη μορφή ψυχικής ταλαιπωρίας, νιώθοντας υποχρεωμένος να απολογείται για μια επιτυχία που στα μάτια των “σνομπ” της εποχής, αποτελούσε ένδειξη χαμηλού καλλιτεχνικού επιπέδου.
Ο χρόνος απέδειξε περίτρανα το αντίθετο.

One of the most known advocates of the romantic spirit, the Norwegian composer and pianist Edvard Grieg [1843-1907] was the man who put his country on the musical map, fueling his work with traditional motifs.
Grieg was lucky enough to be popular during his own lifetime. So popular in fact, that he was feeling sometimes obliged to apologize for his success, considered by the “snobs” of his time as a sign of low artistic standards.
Time has proved quite the opposite.
