Ξεκινάμε με το πρώτο έργο που ο Philip Glass έγραψε στα middle ‘80s για συμφωνική ορχήστρα. O συνθέτης, το περιγράφει σαν μουσικό πορτραίτο των φυσικών Albert Michelson και Edward Morley, γνωστών από το διάσημο πείραμά τους στα τέλη των 1800s [Michelson – Morley experiment]. Αποτέλεσμα αυτού ήταν η ανατροπή της θεωρίας περί ενός αιθέρα στο μέσω του οποίου το φως ταξιδεύει στο διάστημα. Η επίδρασή του θεωρείται καταλυτική για την δημιουργία της Ειδικής Θεωρίας της Σχετικότητας.
Το The Light είναι ένα έργο με εκπληκτικές κλιμακώσεις. Το ακούμε από τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα του Bournemouth, υπό τη διεύθυνση της Marin Aslop.

Strictly musical posts for today and tomorrow, dictated by the “luminous” current affairs.
We start with the first work Philip Glass wrote for symphony orchestra in the middle ‘80s. The composer describes it as a musical portrait of physics Albert Michelson and Edward Morley, known for their famous experiment in the late 1800s [Michelson-Morley experiment]. The result was the overturning of the theory of an ether through which light travels in space. Its effect is considered a catalyst for the creation of the Special Theory of Relativity.
The Light is a work with stunning escalations. We hear it performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Aslop.
