On April 25…
Ella was born

Ella Fitzgerald is one of those cases you feel embarrassed to say anything about, fearing that you will fall into cliches or exaggerations. Fortunately, you don’t have to speak: rarely has an artists’ reputation been so suited to its value… A modest package of four, two from the Rodgers & Hart songbook, two from Cole Porter‘s, will do. Ella‘s star lit up our world for the first time on this date, April 25, 1917.

More about these reblogs
Lately I have been rebloging music videos from Oannes new blog. For my friends who didn’t know, or wonder why…. Oannes [aka Socratis Papahatzis] is my husband, partner in life and music and the one with my undying admiration. Together we have a band MK-O [the music of Marina Kanavaki & Oannes]. So, it’s my pleasure to share with you his [and mine] musical selections. • Although here I reblog mainly his musical selections, he writes exceptional articles on various topics [some may need translation], so do visit his site. He has my highest recommendation!

One of the greatest singers of all time! “Too Darn Hot” and “In the Still of the Night” are from “Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook,” which is an amazing album and my personal favorite of hers. And her wonderful mess-up of “Mack the Knife” never gets old!
…if not the greatest. Describing her voice makes words sound poor. So, I agree with you! 😉
Ella was indeed a beautiful singer and artist… There is something about her voice that always when I hear it sends goosebumps… ❤
Her voice does that. I know exactly what you mean!!!! ❤🤗❤

My favorite was the Berlin concert where she made “a wreck, a wreck of Mack the Knife.”
A ha…. yes! Lots of favorites here…. I’m finding it very hard to choose with a voice like hers! 😉
This particular one shows her amazing talent at being able to recover from an error. She pretty thoroughly trashed this treasured German song in front of a Berlin audience and ended up being applauded. Unheard of.
Genius…. not just her voice but the whole ‘package’! 🙂
Fact.
!!!!!!!
Ah, the queen of blues, she will live on in the hearts of all music lovers! xoxoxoxo
Oh… and not just music lovers. She could sing anything with her divine voice…

One of the most astounding voices ever!xxooxxoo

Ella Fitzgerald was a great treasure. She also recorded Gershwin and Berlin songbooks.
Indeed…. we have I believe all her recordings (and then some). Thing about such a talent is that they come once in a century (if not more). Her voice is what I call universal voice that comes straight from the heavens… and that’s pretty moderate too! 😉
All true. Asked if he liked to work with Ella Duke Ellington said What׳s not to like? She has perfect pitch and perfect tone. Cheers!
Exactly… and a touch of ‘out of this world’!!!!!
