Ο Βιεννέζος δάσκαλος ξεκίνησε τη σύνθεση της Συμφωνίας Δωματίου Νο 2 το 1906, αμέσως μετά την ολοκλήρωση της Πρώτης [ακούστε την εδώ]. Ανικανοποίητος από την εξέλιξή της την εγκατέλειψε δυο φορές, για να επιστρέψει τελικά σ’ αυτήν μόλις το 1939, με θριαμβευτικό αποτέλεσμα.
Η Δεύτερη Συμφωνία Δωματίου αποτελεί ακριβό δείγμα του στιλ της πρώτης περιόδου του Schoenberg, στο οποίο από καιρού εις καιρόν επέστρεφε, μετά την επανάσταση που έφερε στη μουσική του 20ου αι.
Για κάποιους, αυτά, τα τονικά έργα του, είναι τα πλέον αξιόλογα. Όπως άλλωστε δήλωσε ο ίδιος ο εφευρέτης του δωδεκάφθογγου: “υπάρχει τόση πολλή καλή μουσική να γραφτεί ακόμα στη ντο μείζονα…”.

The Viennese master began composing Chamber Symphony Νο 2 in 1906, immediately after the completion of the First one [hear it here]. Dissatisfied with the progress, he abandoned it twice, only to return in 1939, with a triumphant result.
The Second Chamber Symphony is a precious token of the style of Schoenberg’s first period, to which he returned from time to time, after the revolution he brought to the music of the 20th century.
For some, these tonal works are the most remarkable. Besides, as the inventor of dodecaphony himself stated: “there is so much good music still to be written in C major…”.
