Σε ηλικια 8 ετών ο Johann Nepomuk Hummel [1778-1837] έγινε μαθητής του W.A. Mozart, εντυπωσιασμένου απ΄το ταλέντο του παιδιού – θαύματος. Θα επακολουθούσε μια λαμπρή καριέρα που έφερε τον συνθέτη – πιανίστα σε επαφή με καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Clementi, Haydn και Beethoven, με τον οποίο συνδέθηκε με μακρόχρονη φιλία βασισμένη σε αμοιβαία εκτίμηση [αυτό, αφού ο JNH κατάφερε να ξεπεράσει την κρίση αυτοπεποίθησης που του δημιούργησε η συγκεκριμένη γνωριμία].
Το έργο του Τσέχου συνθέτη θα ξεχνιόταν μετά θάνατον, για να ανακαλυφθεί ξανά σχετικά πρόσφατα.
Στο μεταίχμιο κλασικισμού και ρομαντισμού ο Hummel έγραψε μουσική κυρίως για πιάνο, αλλά και για έγχορδα και πνευστά, όπως το Kονσέρτο για Tρομπέτα σε Mι ύφεση μείζονα έργο 49, το δεύτερο μέρος του οποίου, Andante, ακούμε με σολιστ τον Wynton Marsalis. Και στη συνέχεια [04:16], το δεύτερο μέρος, Menuetto a scherzo από το κουιντέτο του σε Ρε ελλάσσονα, έργο 74. Ερμηνεύουν οι Nepomuk Fortepiano Quintet σε όργανα εποχής, ανάμεσα στα οποία το fortepiano, πρώιμη μορφή πιάνου, συνδετικός κρίκος ανάμεσα στη σύγχρονη βερσιόν αυτού και το harpsichord.

At the age of 8, Johann Nepomuk Hummel [1778-1837] became a student of W.A. Mozart, impressed by the child prodigy’s talent. A brilliant career would follow, bringing the composer-pianist into contact with artists such as Clementi, Haydn and Beethoven, with whom he was linked by a long-standing friendship based on mutual esteem [this, after JNH having managed to overcome the crisis of self-confidence created by the acquaintance].
The Czech composer’s work would be forgotten posthumously, only to be rediscovered relatively recently.
On the verge of classicism and romanticism, Hummel wrote music mainly for piano, but also for strings and wind instruments, such as the Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat Major, Op. 49, the second part of which, Andante, we hear with Wynton Marsalis on trumpet.
After that [04:16], the second part, Menuetto a scherzo of his Quintet in D Minor, Op. 74. Nepomuk Fortepiano Quintet perform on period instruments, including the fortepiano, an early piano incarnation, and a link between its modern version and the harpsichord.
