from Oannes *

Οι μαζούρκες του Frédéric Chopin όπως η λέξη μαρτυρεί, βασίζονται σ’ ένα χορό της πατρίδας του Πολωνίας. Ο συνθέτης δεν ήταν ο πρώτος, όπως λέγεται συχνά, που έφερε “λαϊκά” στοιχεία στην “κλασική” μουσική. Κανείς όμως δεν το έκανε με τη δική του φυσικότητα και το δικό του απαιτητικό τρόπο – δεν αποκλείεται ο συνδυασμός να είναι το μυστικό της τεράστιας και διαχρονικής απήχησής του.
Ακούμε τρεις από τις μαζούρκες, σε ερμηνεία του Jean-Mark Luisada. Στη δεύτερη απ’ αυτές μπορεί κανείς να διακρίνει την προαναγγελία ενός Ντεμπισί [ο Σοπέν ήταν το είδωλό του] ή ακόμα, με λίγη καλή θέληση, …της jazz.

Frédéric Chopin’s mazurkas, as the word suggests, are based on a dance of his native Poland. The composer was not the first, as is often said, to bring “folk” elements to “classical” music. But no one did it in such a natural and demanding way – it is possible that the combination is the secret of his huge and timeless appeal.
We hear three of the mazurkas, performed by Jean-Mark Luisada. On the second of these one can notice the foreshadowing of Debussy [Chopin was his idol] or even, with a little goodwill, … of jazz.
