Ο Δημήτρης Μητρόπουλος είναι περισσότερο γνωστός ως ένας από τους σημαντικότερους μαέστρους του 20ου αι. (ομολογουμένως το όνομά του αναφέρεται όλο και σπανιότερα – όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα).
Θα μπορούσε πιθανώς να έχει διαπρέψει εξ ίσου στο χώρο της σύνθεσης, δραστηριότητα που εγκατέλειψε μετά από μια εντυπωσιακή πρώιμη παραγωγή έργων, προς χάρη της “κύριας” καριέρας του.

Dimitri Mitropoulos is best known as one of the most important conductors of the 20th century (admittedly his name is mentioned less and less – not only in Greece).
He could probably have excelled equally in the field of composition, an activity he abandoned after an impressive early production of works, in favor of his “main” career.
A token of his skills is the Cretan Feast, a piano work, here in its orchestral version – arranged by Nikos Skalkottas.
