Ο ήχος των Damned, με αιχμές την κιθάρα του Brian James και τη φωνή του Dave Vanian, ήταν πάντα στ’ αυτιά μου κάτι περισσότερο από αρχετυπικός ήχος του βρετανικού πανκ : υπάρχει κάτι το “υπερκόσμιο”, στοιχειωμένο και δαιμονιακό σ’ αυτόν. Ένα από τα τραγούδια όπου τα παραπάνω ακούγονται ευκρινώς, στ’ αυτιά μου τουλάχιστον, είναι αυτό το αριστούργημα από το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ. Μουσική – στίχοι του μεγάλου εκλιπόντος.

The sound of the Damned, with the sharp edge of Brian James’ guitar and Dave Vanian’s voice, was always to my ears more than the archetypal British punk sound : in it there is something “otherworldly”, haunting and demonic. One of the songs where the above are clearly heard, at least to my ears, is this masterpiece from their first album. Music – lyrics by the great departed.
