nine

Nine – a very significant number to me, in many ways.

MK-9

Steve (A.K.A. Bumba), a very talented writer & musician and friend here at the blogosphere, has been doing a series of posts on numbers: The Numbers Game Is Here: Mathematics for Dummies”  with this subtitle: “The beauty of math, of numbers and other beautiful patterns. Of Geometry and Science. Watch out it’s heavy.”
He invited me to work with him on nine.
I really don’t think I meant to approach it in the way I did. In fact I have to admit that life almost made me forget about it, till now. [either this or he would have twisted my arm!  😉 ]
Thank you, Steve!
So here it is and how appropriately, during the ninth of the ninth month:
The Whole Nine Yards*
Do check Steve’s blog where he gracefully shares his stories and songs.

  1. Thank you for directing me from your September 2020 post! Guess what? 9 is MY favourite number. And I’m a dragon… fitting, I say.
    What a fascinating post.

  2. Beautiful post so well researched. I was thrilled to read the Indian Navagraha (Nava means 9) each graha having great significance to Astrologist. Thank you dear Marina and cheers for a lovely weekend. 🙂

  3. Oh my! I think I like this even better! Especially that final dragon/serpent in those fiery colours.
Off to Stephen’s page to check out more nine trivia.

  4. You’re so right, Marina. It’s as if the #9 took over you creativity. I love this. The information if wonderful but your dragon and K9 doggie are both outstanding. I will have to go over to Steve’s blog. Thank you for sharing your artwork.
    Isadora 😍

  5. As a mathematician, I am fascinated by the inner life of numbers and together with your wonderfully bright art, it makes this piece delightful. As children we would play the 9 number by multiplying and adding back to 9.

  6. Fascinating. As they said in the old days its dressed to the nines. 🙂

In Folklore, Genre Fiction and Occult tradition The Nine were secret semi-immortals who were guiding/controlling the destiny of humanity. The concept grew out of concept of nine fates or Three Norns.

  7. Your pictures look great on my blog, but here they are just terrific. Thanks for the kind words. I sent you the photo you asked about, and then I went ahead and did another 9 or 99 post. Haste makes waste, and cats have nine lives. However, they proceed carefully when in a room full of rocking chairs.

  8. Marina I am delighted to see your love of 9. For a long time I studied Numerology and discovered the power of 9. Your post has informed/reminded me of just how much it has pervaded our daily lives. As you point out it is a perfect number. Not able to divided yet always multiples to be added up to itself. For those that are 9’s it demands the very best for it contains all other numbers.
    Thanks for this wonderful post!

  9. Well done , Marina! It’s very fine, sublime, on time, well defined, 3 trine, my kind of mind, a sign, red wine & food to dine! 😀
    Will visit Steve!

    • Ah, Debi, it was all because of Bumba’s invitation to co-write a post on 9. I hadn’t plan for such an outcome, but it was all pure fun! 🙂 I hope you visit his page! 🙂

    • Thank you, my dear Gilly. Glad i could share a little info about my favorite number. Please visit Bumba’s blog [if you haven’t already], who is responsible for this! 🙂

  10. The mystic of nine, which my date of birth also adds to, very awesomely captured, marina, as only you can. Thalia in Greek is the muse of comedy, in India’s Hindi, it means applause, and that is what I will give you, a big Thalia….best wishes.

  11. Your images are always beautiful, Marina, and you really captured the best of number 9! I particularly love 9-ball and that amazing, dramatic dragon. 🙂

  12. Superb Marina – a brilliant approach of illustrating the meaning of 9 to you in the most creative melding of “nine” concepts.

  13. Well you’ve had some hard work – and fun? – with the project. Handy to have the muses in there. I can always remember 6 of them – but never the same ones! And never all 9. RH
