…We Used To Wait

Yes we did!

And it was well worth it – good or bad.

But now…

We rarely sit and listen to a whole piece of music without fast forwarding …at least some of it,
We take just a few seconds to look at images before skipping to the next.
We’re outside [yes, on those rare occasions] and instead of looking with our eyes, we switch to lens view [phone or camera, I’m one to do that alot!]
Our greeting to friends is expressed with an emoticon, a cif or a sticker, instead of a call, a letter or god forbid, a meeting!
and before you know it,
We fast forward our lives.
No news, I know, but once in a while it’s good to pause and…

wait!

We Used To Wait

I used to write
I used to write letters
I used to sign my name
I used to sleep at night
Before the flashing lights settled deep in my brain
But by the time we met
By the time we met
The times had already changed

So I never wrote a letter
I never took my true heart
I never wrote it down
So when the lights cut out
I was lost standing in the wilderness downtown

Now our lives are changing fast
Now our lives are changing fast
Hope that something pure can last
Hope that something pure can last

It seems strange
How we used to wait for letters to arrive
But what’s stranger still
Is how something so small can keep you alive
We used to wait
We used to waste hours just walkin’ around
We used to wait
All those wasted lives in the wilderness downtown

Oh, we used to wait
Oh, we used to wait
Oh, we used to wait
Sometimes it never came (we used to wait)
Sometimes it never came (we used to wait)
Still moving through the pain

I’m gonna write a letter to my true love
I’m gonna sign my name
Like a patient on a table
I wanna walk again
Gonna move through the pain

Now our lives are changing fast
Now our lives are changing fast
Hope that something pure can last
Hope that something pure can last

Oh, we used to wait
Oh, we used to wait
Oh, we used to wait
Sometimes it never came (we used to wait)
Sometimes it never came (we used to wait)
Still moving through the pain
We used to wait
We used to wait
We used to wait

We used to wait for it
We used to wait for it
Now we’re screaming
Sing the chorus again
We used to wait for it
We used to wait for it
Now we’re screaming
Sing the chorus again
I used to wait for it
I used to wait for it
Hear my voice screaming
Sing the chorus again

Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it

  1. Beautiful window painting, Marina. 😍 Yes Times have changed so much, but although we don’t write letters any more, we do seem to be constantly in touch with loved ones as well as complete strangers. The blog world is so amazing too. 😘🤗

    • A ha ha…. at the moment she’s lying next to me looking at the painting! 😉 It’s an old one but I thought about it when i was listening to that song and reminding myself that sitting down and just being -not waiting, as the song says- just being… in front of a still frame, like this window is elementary. Sending love and many many xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo …Hera too!!!!❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️

  3. Yes, I can feel the loss of many things from our present-day due to our insane media addiction. I must confess to being one of those emoji people. I find when I call people
the silence between sentences becomes awkward, perhaps, the dialog is being forgotten.
How sad would that be? I fear the youth will never know a different type of connection.
Lovely window painting, Marina, as always. Have a beautiful day … XOXO

    • I know exactly what you’re saying! I am too an emoji/cif and sticker person but it really is as if we’re returning to a basic way of communicating. I can picture us in a not so distant future communicating with inarticulate cries and then signs! I guess we should consider ourselves lucky for having lived both. Thank you so much, my dear Isadora, you too have a wonderful day! 🙂 xoxoxo😘😍😘
