from Oannes *

Η ένταση που εκβιαστικά εκμαιεύει ο κύριος Ξαρχάκος από ένα λεπτεπίλεπτο τραγούδι [βλ. προηγούμενο post], μου θύμισε αυτή την εκπληκτική μεταφορά ρεμπέτικου της δεκαετίας του ’20 [“Οι Μπαγλαμάδες” – Γιώργος Βιδάλης] σ’ εκείνην του ’70, από τον Χρηστάκη.
Το drive της ηλεκτρισμένης διασκευής, αποτελεί για μένα τον ορισμό του διονυσιασμού. Αποτελεί επίσης ακούσια, πρώιμη εκδήλωση ενός φαινομένου που θα γινόταν αργότερα συρμός ως παρωδία: της επιμειξίας λαϊκού + ροκ. [Κάτω, σε mp3 η βερσιόν του 1928]

The tension that Mr. Xarchakos forcefully pumps from a delicate song [see previous post], reminded me of this amazing transfer of a ‘20s rebetiko [“Baglamades” – Giorgos Vidalis] to the ‘70s, by Christakis.
The drive of the electrified adaptation is to me the definition of Dionysian spirit.
It is also an, unintentional, early manifestation of a phenomenon that would later become a parody trend: the miscegenation of Greek popular song + rock. [on mp3 below, 1928 version]
