Συναντήσαμε ξανά τον Sergey Taneyev στο περσινό αφιέρωμα στους Ρώσους συνθέτες [εδώ].
Πληθωρικός συνθέτης κοσμοπολίτικων επιρροών που τον τοποθετούν μακρυά απ΄την εθνική σχολή της πατρίδας του, και κορυφαίος πιανίστας της εποχής, ο Taneyev υπήρξε επίσης μεγάλος θεωρητικός – καθοριστική επιρροή για μια νεώτερη γενιά υστερορομαντικών [Scriabin, Medtner, Rachmaninov].
Κάτι από την αξία του καλλιτέχνη φαίνεται από εκτίμηση που είχε γι’ αυτόν ο δάσκαλος και στη συνέχεια φίλος του P.I. Tchaikovsky [όχι ακριβώς εύκολος στα εγκώμια]. Ο τελευταίος είχε “αναγορεύσει” τον Taneyev σε απόλυτο κριτή των έργων του – τον μόνο για του οποίου τη γνώμη ενδιαφερόταν.
Ακούμε δυο αποσπάσματα από την έξοχη καντάτα ‘Ioann Damaskin’ [‘Ιωάννης Δαμασκηνός’] βασιμένη στο ποίημα του Alexei Tolstoi.

We met Sergey Taneyev again on last year’s tribute to Russian composers [here].
An exuberant composer of cosmopolitan influences that place him aside from his country’s national school, and a prominent pianist of his time, Taneyev was also a great theorist – decisive influence for a younger generation of post-romantics [Scriabin, Medtner, Rachmaninov].
Something of the artist’s merit is shown by the esteem his teacher and friend P.I. Tchaikovsky [not exactly prone to compliments] had for him. The latter had “nominated” Taneyev the absolute critic of his works – the only one whose opinion he cared about.
We hear two excerpts from the excellent cantata ‘Ioann Damaskin’ [‘John Of Damascus’] based on the poem by Alexei Tolstoi.
