Το άλμπουμ – ντεμπούτο των Νεοϋορκέζων κυκλοφόρησε 10 ημέρες πριν από το αντίστοιχο των Damned. Παρουσίαζε μια μουσική εκλεκτικότητα επίσης μακρυά από την πανκ πεπατημένη (εκείνη των Damned συχνά παραβλέπεται, ίσως γιατί συνοδευόταν από ένα ηχητικό attitude …πιο πανκ και απ’ το πανκ) και ένα στιχουργικό επίπεδο μοναδικό για τα δεδομένα του χώρου, on both sides of the Atlantic : η αυτοπεποίθηση που μαρτυρά το ψευδώνυμο του singer songwriter-lead κιθαρίστα-εγκέφαλου του γκρουπ, μόνο υπερφίαλη δεν ήταν.
Ακούμε το ομώνυμο κομμάτι από το κλασικό άλμπουμ, στεφανωμένο από ένα σόλο του Tom Verlaine που τον τοποθετεί, εκτός των άλλων, στο πάνθεον των μεγάλων της αμερικανικής κιθαριστικής παράδοσης.

The debut album by the New Yorkers was released 10 days before that of the Damned. It showcased a musical eclecticism far from the punk norm (that of the Damned is often overlooked, perhaps because it was accompanied by a sonic attitude … more punk than punk) and a lyrical level unique for the scene, on both sides of the Atlantic: the confidence reflected in the artistic pseudonym of the singer-songwriter-lead guitarist-mastermind of the band was anything but arrogant.
We’re listening to the title track from the classic album, crowned by a Tom Verlaine solo that places him, among other things, in the pantheon of greats in the American guitar tradition.
