Tο Free Form, ένα από τα σημαντικότερα του hard bop τρομπετίστα-συνθέτη ηχογραφήθηκε το 1961, για να κυκλοφορήσει από την Blue Note πέντε χρόνια αργότερα. Μαζί του στο πιάνο ο 21χρονος μόλις Herbie Hancock, ο Wayne Shorter στο τενόρο σαξόφωνο, ο Butch Warren, μπάσο και ο Billy Higgins, ντραμς.
