Sergei Prokofiev tribute from Oannes [+]

As mentioned in my previous post [Peter & the Wolf], Oannes has prepared a tribute celebrating Prokofiev’s birthday.
So here it is with the addition of 3½ more from me.

• PIANO CONCERTO No 3, KISSIN / BERLINER, ABBADO

On the anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev‘ s birth, one of the greatest [for me, the greatest] composer of the twentieth century, we will hear some of his music, starting with Piano Concerto No 3, in a “dazzling” performance by Evgeni Kissin [photo] and the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Claudio Abbado. Sergei Prokofiev was born on April 27, 1891.

• SYMPHONY No 1 “CLASSICAL”

🎧 click on the image to see original post and listen…

Ο Lorin Maazel διευθύνει την Orchestre Nationale De France.

Sergei Prokofiev wrote his First Symphony [“Classical”] at the age of 26. It is scored for classically-sized orchestra and modelled on Joseph Haydn’s symphonic style. It contains of course passages unimaginable for the late 18th century. The Orchestre Nationale De France is conducted by Lorin Maazel.

  1. It’s good of you to promote Prokofiev here. The fact that he died on the same day in 1953 as the tyrant Stalin robbed Prokofiev of the homage that should have been then.

The music for “Alexander Nevsky” has long been a favorite of mine. A couple of years ago I read a biography of him.

  2. Okay… I’ve listened to all the fabulous music here. I baked a blueberry raisin loaf, did a bit of blogging and loved all this music. These classic pieces will be great for when I’m sewing my Art Gown!
