Very happy to share Oannes tribute to Cecilia Bartoli, one of my favorite sopranos, whose birthday is today!
Σαν σήμερα, 4 Ιουνίου 1966, γεννήθηκε στη Ρώμη η σοπράνο Cecilia Bartoli, μια από τις πιο διάσημες, και δίκαια, τραγουδίστριες όπερας της εποχής μας. Η εντυπωσιακή έκταση [καλύπτει άνετα τις περιοχές της υψιφώνου και της μεσοφώνου] η ασυνήθιστη χροιά και η συχνά “σοκαριστική” αμεσότητα των ερμηνειών, κάνουν τη φωνή της Cecilia αλάνθαστα αναγνωρίσιμη.
Δίπλα σ’ αυτά πρέπει κανείς να προσθέσει το ασυμβίβαστο καλλιτεχνικό πνεύμα μιας γυναίκας που ελέγχει την καριέρα της χωρίς εκπτώσεις, που αναζητά και αναδεικνύει ρεπερτόριο εκτός πεπατημένης, όπως μια σειρά από σχετικά άγνωστες, μπαρόκ κυρίως όπερες. Αυτό δίπλα στο στάνταρ ρεπερτόριο, στο πλαίσιο του οποίου έχει θριαμβεύσει τραγουδώντας συνθέτες όπως ο Ροσίνι, ο Μπελίνι και ο Μότσαρτ.

On this date, June 4, 1966, in Rome, the soprano Cecilia Bartoli was born, one of the most successful, and justly so, opera singers of our times. The striking expanse [comfortably covers the soprano and mezzo register] the unusual timbre and the often “shocking” immediacy of her interpretations, make Cecilia‘s voice unmistakably recognizable.
Next to them one must add the uncompromising artistic spirit of a woman who controls her career without discounts, who seeks and brings out repertoire off the beaten track, such as a series of relatively unknown baroque operas. This next to the standard repertoire, in which she has triumphed singing composers like Rossini, Bellini and Mozart.

I know I’m probably going to hell for this one but I have always found that Cecilia sings from the back of her throat…
To hell?!! Why?! I think that this is something my singing teacher would have said about her… but she is actually on the verge of singing from the back of the throat, but actually isn’t! If she was, she wouldn’t have a voice to sing with today [singing back there just destroys the vocal chords] and also she wouldn’t have that versatility. However, I know what you mean. It’s just her unique timbre. 😉 xoxo

So, now before I go to Oannes, I check to see if you added one or two of your own!
I always hated opera, but then I discovered Charlotte Hoather, soprano. I adore her voice, and love hearing her sing. Today was to be her wedding day, postponed due to Coronavirus. She’s been doing balcony concerts.
Anyway, then comes along Oannes reblogs. I have never been so open to all music in. my life!

Cecilia is such a unique voice… She can be very powerful and playful and lyrical at the same time….
