from Oannes Songs Of Childhood Nostalgia #57
✻
I was a kid myself when I first heard this song, one of my favorites from Jethro Tull. The idea of this mysterious, sardonic entity visiting you where no parents can protect you [in your dream…] urging you to forbidden acts, seemed fascinating to me. And it still does.
◼︎
❝ You’ll hear me calling in your sweet dream,
Can’t hear your daddy’s warning cry.
You’re going back to be all the things you want to be
While in sweet dreams you softly sigh.
You hear my voice is calling to be mine again,
Live the rest of your life in a day.
Get out and get what you can
While your mummy’s at home a-sleeping.
No time to understand
‘Cause they’ve lost what they thought they were keeping.
No one can hear us in your sweet dream,
Don’t hear you leave to start the car.
All wrapped up tightly in the coat you borrowed from me,
Your place of resting is not far.
You hear my voice is calling to be mine again,
Live the rest of your life in a day.
Get out and get what you can
While your mummy’s at home a-sleeping.
No time to understand
‘Cause they’ve lost what they thought they were keeping. ❞

Seen a dozen of his shows. Always began with a fantastic warm up group– so you know his performance was going to be fantastic.

He’s actually a British noble – a Knight, Lord, Baron or something – which some may find surprising. I liked his electronic explorations too… at the time, that is.

There you go again… Making me feel like an uncouth philistine! Had to look up two count’em two items to fully understand your post. If not for the WWW I’d be a candidate for the rube of the century! 😂🙃🙂😗

….which two items?
“uncouth philistine” and “rube” ought to be deleted [and yes, I had to look up “uncouth”! 😉 ]

lol… i’m just kidding… you’re amazing. You and your husband make a wonderful team! Actually inspired a post I’m working on right now (about JT). But for the record I of course knew chapeau meant hat but didn’t realize its broader connotation. And elbow shake… well I guess I’m just so monkish that I miss a few things… https://mclark.wordpress.com/2020/08/21/ian-anderson-talks-about-inspiration-and-the-muse/ 🙂
