from Oannes *

Σαν σήμερα, 17 Δεκεμβρίου του 1770 γεννήθηκε στη Βόννη ο Ludwig van Beethoven, μια από τους σημαντικότερες φυσιογνωμίες της δυτικής μουσικής.
Η φιλολογία που έχει αναπτυχθεί γύρω απ’ αυτόν [ξεκίνησε ήδη ενώ βρισκόταν εν ζωή], αντιπροσωπευτική του πνεύματος μιας εποχής που έχει εκμετρήσει τον βίο της, σηματοδοτεί ένα “αφηγηματικό” τρόπο προσέγγισης του καλλιτεχνικού φαινομένου. Και βάζει εμπόδια σε μια φυσιολογική επικοινωνία ανάμεσα στο ευρύ κοινό και το έργο του συνθέτη.
Ελπίζω, σε καιρούς λιγότερο χαλεπούς, να έχουμε την ευκαιρία να ασχοληθούμε με το πώς συνέβη αυτό, με θέματα όπως ο Beethoven Άνθρωπος της Μοίρας, ο Beethoven Άνθρωπος της Νέας Εποχής, η υιοθεσία του από τα ευρωπαϊκά διευθυντήρια, η κώφωση και το πώς επέδρασε στο έργο του.
Η αρχική ιδέα μου να φτιάξω το blog αφορούσε την πραγμάτευση τέτοιων κυρίως θεμάτων. Αλλά καταντάει επικίνδυνα αυτοαναφορικό …εν καιρώ πολέμου, να ασχολείσαι με “θεωρητικά ζητήματα”. Όχι του πολέμου με τον …ιό, που επικαλούνται κρατούντες και “ειδικοί”, αλλά εκείνου που οι ίδιοι μας έχουν κηρύξει.

On this date, December 17, 1770, Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most important figures in Western music, was born in Bonn.
The literature that’s been developed around him [already started while he was alive], representative of the spirit of an era that has come to an end, marks a “narrative” way of approaching the artistic phenomenon. And it obstructs a normal communication between the general public and the composer’s work.
I hope that, in less difficult times, we will have the opportunity to deal with how this happened, with issues such as Beethoven Man of Fate, Beethoven Man of the New Age, his adoption by The European Directorate, deafness and how it affected his art.
My initial idea about this blog was dealing with issues like that.
But in times of war, dealing with “theoretical issues” could seem too self-indulgent.
We hear LvB’s Piano Sonata No. 12 played by Wilhelm Kempff.
