Without artistic fireworks and revolutionary moods, but with a full, expressive sound and an inexhaustible melodic vein, the tenor saxophonist – composer Hank Mobley is one of my dearest figures in the field of hard bop. We hear him along with Horace Silver, Art Farmer, Doug Watkins, Art Blakey [piano, trumpet, bass and drums respectively] on the appropriate for the occasion “Funk In Deep Freeze”, from the 1957 album of the same name.
