Το The Long Black Veil είναι μια κλασική κάντρι μπαλάντα, ταυτισμένη με την ερμηνεία του Johnny Cash. Εδώ την ακούμε απ΄τους Chieftains, με front man τον Mick Jagger. [Φωτό : MJ, Paddy Moloney]

Not losing touch with Jeff Beck, we’ re starting over with our tribute to ghost related music. One of them ghosts is the first-person narrator of the following story.
The Long Black Veil is a classic country ballad, identified with Johnny Cash’s performance. We hear it here by the Chieftains, fronted by Mick Jagger. [Photo : MJ, Paddy Moloney]

❝ Ten years ago on a cold dark night
Someone was killed ‘neath the town hall light
Just a few at the scene, and they all did agree
That the man who ran looked a lot like me
The judge said “Son, what’s your alibi?
If you were somewhere else, then you won’t have to die”
But I spoke not a word, tho’ it meant my life
For I’d been in the arms of my best friend’s wife
She walks these hills in a long black veil
Visits my grave when the night winds wail
Nobody knows, nobody sees
Nobody knows, but me
The scaffold is high, eternity near
She stands in the crowd, she sheds not a tear
But sometimes at night when the cold winds moan
In a long black veil, she cries o’er my bones
She walks these hills in a long black veil
Visits my grave when the night winds wail
Nobody knows, nobody sees
Nobody knows, but me ❞

Enjoy!

As always, I’m happy to hear your thoughts, however I’d highly recommend a direct dialogue with the …’source’ [why comments are closed here], so please visit Oannes’ page where you can also listen to the song!
