Ένα από τα πιο “ιδιοσυγκρασιακά” σχήματα που έχουν περάσει υπό την [progressive] rock ετικέτα είναι οι Magma, το γαλλικό γκρουπ που άκμασε στα ‘70s και συνέχισε / συνεχίζει έκτοτε υπό συνθήκες σχετικής αφάνειας.
Τα πάντα σ’ αυτούς είναι [τουλάχιστον] ασυνήθιστα, ξεκινώντας από τη φανταστική γλώσσα στην οποία διηγούνται τις sci fi ιστορίες τους. Το όνομα της γλώσσας : Kobaian και ο ορισμός του μουσικού τους στιλ σ’ αυτήν … “zeuhl” : rock και νεοπρωτογονισμός Carl Orf – oriented, jazz αρμονίες και οπερατικά φωνητικά, απόκοσμη προς τελετουργική ατμόσφαιρα, όλα αυτά διεπόμενα από τα εκρηκτικά ντραμς του Christian Vander. Ακόμα ένα ασυνήθιστο στοιχείο των Magma : ο ντράμερ του γκρουπ είναι ο ιδρυτής, ηγέτης, επινοητής της γλώσσας και συνθετικός εγκέφαλός του. Μέλος του March born musicians club, needless to say.

One of the most “idiosyncratic” outfits to go under the [progressive] rock label is Magma, the French band that flourished in the ’70s and has continued / continues since then under relative obscurity.
Everything about them is unusual [to say the least], starting with the fictional language in which they tell their sci fi stories. The name of the language : Kobaian, and the definition of their musical style in it … “zeuhl” : rock and neo-primitivism Carl Orf – oriented, jazz harmonies and operatic vocals, eerie to ceremonial atmosphere, all governed by Christian Vander’s explosive drums. Another unusual element of Magma : the drummer of the group is its founder, leader, inventor of language and creative brain. He ’s a member of the March born musicians club, needless to say.
