Το εκκλησιαστικό ορατόριο του J.S. Bach “Τα Κατά Ματθαίον Πάθη”, έργο για σόλο φωνές, διπλή χορωδία και διπλή ορχήστρα, είναι από τις λίγες σχετικά περιπτώσεις όπου οι γνώμες των “ειδικών” συγκλίνουν : πρόκειται για ένα από τα σημαντικότερα έργα στην ιστορία της δυτικής μουσικής. J.S. Bach’s sacred oratorio St. Matthew Passion, for solo voices, double choir and double orchestra, is one of the relatively few cases where the opinions of the “experts” converge : it is one of the most important works in the history of Western music. Us, mere mortals have nothing but our emotion to testify, as we listen to some of his excerpts, from John Eliot Gardiner’s performance [see participants on the back cover of the cd]
