The first Lutheran oratorio ever written was that of the Dannish Dietrich Buxtehude, prominent composer and leading organist of the German Baroque, and one of J.S. Bach’s main influences :
Membra Jesu Nostri [Members of Our Lord Jesus], a a series of 7 cantatas, each one meditating on a part of the body of Christ on the Cross.
We hear the first of these : Ad Pedes.
