Στην κορυφή του May born club βρίσκουμε τον Claudio Monteverdi [1567 – 1643].

At the top of the May born club we find Claudio Monteverdi [1567 – 1643]. Not only because he is the most important pioneer, late 16th – early 17 century, of opera as a genre, but because the overall level of his work [church and secular music] places him easily among the greatest composers of all time – regardless of the attention he receives, in the era of ChatGPT and AI Generated “music”.
We hear an excerpt from the first act of his majestic opera ‘The Coronation Of Poppaea’ [its live performance at the Athens Concert Hall, late ’90s, was a once in a lifetime concert experience to me] : Ad Altri Tocca In Sorte / Otton, Torna In Te Stesso.
The version is the monumental Concerto Vocale one, directed by René Jacobs [pic.]. The singers : soprano Danielle Borst [Poppaea] and countertenor Axel Köhler [Otto]

Enjoy!

As always, I’m happy to hear your thoughts, however I’d highly recommend a direct dialogue with the …’source’ [why comments are closed here], so please visit Oannes’ page where you can also listen to the music!
