Most part of Domenico Scarlatti’s work was written during his service at the Portuguese and Spanish court – his influence by these countries’ culture explains something about the unique flavor of his music.
Among his prominent admirers over the centuries were artists such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, Bartok.
Something that is not often said is that the very feeling of these works goes often beyond the context of baroque, anticipating that of the romantic period.
We hear three more of DS’ sonatas, performed by the great Mikhail Pletnev.
