Carlos Kleiber’s “reading” of the Fifth Symphony is one of those through which one rediscovers a work, even though its endless repetition has ranked it among the clichés.
For the analytical power and immediacy with which CK conducts is that of a man who comes face to face with the greatness of the composition for the first time.
