Remaining in Renaissance/ Baroque route : Fransesco Cavalli (1602-1676) has gone down in history as Monteverdi’s successor and a dominant figure in 17th-century Venetian opera, with more than 30 works to his credit. However, his main occupation was as organist, singer, choir director of St. Mark’s Church and composer of church music. Most of the latter has been lost, with the exception of some works published during his lifetime. Among them, three collections of Vespers, one of which we hear.

Enjoy!

As always, I’m happy to hear your thoughts, however I’d highly recommend a direct dialogue with the …’source’ [why comments are closed here], so please visit Oannes’ page where you can also listen to the music !
